Moderated changing the order of columns/messages in Thunderbird
Gene Warner
To change the order of the messages you can do that in the view menu under sort by.
To change the order of the columns is harder, I haven't found a way to do it in JAWS without sighted help.

Okay, is there any way to get Jaws to stop telling when I receive a bunch of new messages?

You probably need to go into the Thunderbird settings and turn off some or all of Thunderbird's methods of notifying you that you have new email. I turned off all of them except for playing a sound and JAWS doesn't say anything when new messages arrive.

Alt+T to open the Tools menu, then preferences.
Be sure to use JAWS+escape to refresh JAWS when you change sections on the categories list, JAWS isn't very good at refreshing itself here.

OK, try this, Alt+T, down arrow, up arrow. That should take you to the last item in the Tools menu, in Thunderbird 91 it is called Preferences, if you are running a newer version they might have changed it to Options.

I did a bit of looking on the Web. The only article I could find (which is not at all helpful) is found at this link:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1040531
Apparently, one has to use the mouse to drag the columns into the order that is wanted. So much for nonvisual access.😔
Cordially,

OK, try this, Alt+T, down arrow, up arrow. That should take you to
the last item in the Tools menu, in Thunderbird 91 it is called
Preferences, if you are running a newer version they might have
changed it to Options.

I don't really know what it is that you want to do specificallya t this moment 9besides do the column reordering which I think it was already stated you should get that add-on for) and I don't use thunderbird, but, there might be more int eh settings than you at first see. If it's like firefox, there are different tabs that you have to activate to open the different settings screens. What was the setting youw ere looking for?

Hey madison.
I just did a google search, and I think you are looking for "when new messages arrive, show an alert" in the general section. Uncheck that box and I think it'll be good.

Madison, I think you need to spend some time just navigating around Thunderbird until you become more familiar with the menus and setting, etc. You need to walk before you run. No one is going to be able to solve all your problems this early in the process.
