Moderated Adobe Acrobat reader and JAWS

I have Adobe Acrobat Reader as my default .pdf
reader. When I click on a .pdf file it opens in Adobe Acrobat Reader, but does
not always come up with the accessible dialog where you choose how to read
the file. Sometimes I have to close the file and open it again. Is there a
setting that will correct this? |

I have the same
problem. Sometimes, even if I close and reopen Adobe Acrobat
Reader multiple times, the accessibility dialog still doesn't
pop up. However, I discovered that I can force it to pop up by
selecting the save as text file option on the file menu.

I also have this issue. Sometimes, I can force it to pop up by hitting F6 and then the down arrow. Unfortunately, this doesn’t always work.

Do the following after you have opened the pdf: Alt e up arrow 3 times or until you get to accessibility right arrow to change reading options and press enter Choose the reading option you want. I often choose top to bottom and left to right. Once you choose what you want, press enter on it and wait for it to start reading it to you. The next time you open a pdf if you wait a little bit, sometimes a minute or so, this same box will pop up. In that box you will also be given the opportunity to say don’t show you this box again. If you choose that, it won’t until you go through the process above again. Karen

I too have this issue. Occasionally I am hitting cntrl-shift-k and it mends it, or go to the edit menu and hit the accessibility option. However, it is volatile and I have not found a firm solution. Cheers, Takis, Greece

Yes, someone suggested hitting Control K then escape. That has been working for me. Before that, I was opening the edit menu and going to accessibility, but it was still slow in opening that dialog. Control K then escape is working more consistently for me now.

Hi, Loy. No, there is no setting that will correct this, but I have found a work-around. After clicking on the file, press CONTROL plus K for Preferences, and after doing this, immediately press ESCAPE. This will cause the file to open to the accessibility options.

Hi Loy,
Whenever I open a PDF file with Adobe and I want the
accessibility menu I need to press, Alt + E, then press the letter, Y , to open
Accessibility. Or press, Control + K, to bring up the list of around 30
categories in preferences.
Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool. ----- Original Message -----

Hi, Mike. That's not what Loy wanted. What he wants is to trick Adobe Reader DC into allowing the file to open to the options that say, Infer reading order from document (recommended), 1 of 3, Left-to-right, top-to-bottom reading order, 2 of 3, Use reading order in raw print stream, 3 of 3
Often, when I click on a pdf, these options won't come up, and I have to "trick" Adobe Reader into showing them by using CONTROL plus K, and immediately pressing ESCAPE.
