Drop the TPAC before each chapter and just use dedication, acknowledgements, etc. You already know the name of the book. That might work.

Hello. Windows has accepted long filenames since fat32 or something, but maybe some file systems on external devices still don’t like them. I’m not sure about CDs. You mentioned JAWS in the subject line but I’m not sure what JAWS thing you need help with after reading your message. Where are you tryign to save the files?

Yeah, windows does, but if you are copying them,
and they have spaces in them, and not just entering on them, you still need to
put the filename with spaces in quotes, or windows will read up to the
space.

Hm. And what type of drive is the s drive? They have the longer names on that drive? If so that’s odd – those names shouldn’t be too long for the NTFS file system.

I mean, aren’t the limitations on that quite wide at this poitn? You can’t use certain characters like quotes and colons and such, but that’s nothing to do with the length. But it could be that the path itself can’t be copied somehow. What exactly are you doing to try to copy the files?

It has to be an NTFS, a FAT32 drive wouldn't allow

If you’re using the command line. But I doubt Joseph is? He didn’t say so. And the filesystems ont eh drive shoudld be the same, or at least if they aren’t, the oen which we now know is an external with its own power supply, could be fat32 or something, in which case the problemw ould be copying over to the drive with the long names and not the reverse.

He is running windows 7, and C: is formatted
NTFS.
I'm guessing Windows 7 might install to FAT32, but
it wouldn't like it.
His drive could be xFAT, which has a few more
limitations compared to NTFS, but I'll bet it is also NTFS.
Joe, according to the page I posted, you don't want
to end files with a 0 or a space.
I think that is what it read, I just breezed
through it.

I just went through this recently; I think it is a Windows 7 thing, not sure. What I did is the following: If you are copying the file from a WIndows 7 machine to a machine where you will have WIndows 10 or higher, this should work. Give the file a 4 or 5-word file name, but don’t change the extension. If you want to keep the original file name for it later, write the original file name down somewhere else; then after you have copied the fileover, you can rename it whatever you want once you get it on a WIndows 10 machine. If this is confusing, write me at the following address and I will try to explain: Lynne57moore@.... GOod luck! Lynne Moore
