Moderated Reading tables with jaws

Hello,
Am running jaws 22, windows 10 and office 16. When I insert a table in word and set JAWS to read my column titles the following happens; When I press the tab key to go to the second row, JAWS reads the column titles accurately, but when I press the tab key to jump to the third row, JAWS doesn’t read the next column title but instead reads the previous column title in the previous row. However, this only happens to only the subsequent first column titles but reads the other column titles accurately. This confuses my students who are starting to learn tables in MS word. Is there a way other than first tabbing away and pressing the shift tab for JAWS to read the first column titles accurately?

Hi,
Why don’t you use control alt and the arrows to move from cell to cell and have them announced if you set column and row titles to be read.

Does the layered JAWS key-spacebar followed by t work for tables in Word? I don’t recall. If it does, after that, you don’t need to press the alt-control keys anymore; just the arrow keys.

Given the subject line of this thread:
let me throw out another tables reading question. I regularly encounter tables with blank rows. In order to get past this, it seems that I have to go back to the first or last column of the row I am on to bypass the blank row. Is there a quick way to do this, or is there a means to get beyond the blank row. HOpefully, I amn stating the question clearly enough. |
