Hello everyone:
I think it was the October major release of Windows
10, 2020, Microsoft took away the ability in the n e t p l w i z program,
the function to turn off/disable the log on screen.
I need to reinstall Windows 10 using the latest
release of the Windows.iso file. How can I turn off/disable the log on screen,
so I do not have to enter a password each time I turn on or, restart a
computer.
By the way, my system will be set up as a
local machine, therefore, I will be using my own user
name and Password I will create during the installation process, not my
Microsoft account information.

I don't need it now as my original automatic log on configuration is still working, but if I ever have to reinstall Windows...need I say more?

To Turn Off the Password Entry Requirement under Win8 or Win10
It's been working as long as Windows 10 has been around, to my knowledge. And while I didn't turn the password entry requirement off for myself, I did just fire up the command I reference and the checkbox that's used still remains there and accessible. --

That still works? That's how I did it last time.
What worries me is that I have heard that Microsoft has taken away the ability to set up Windows using a local account, which would prevent you from doing that.

I think that that was because you were no longer allowed to use a local account when setting up Windows, so you had to use a Microsoft account which must have a password.

You do need a password to set up Windows 10 or 11 but if you want a local account rather than a microsoft account when you set up your local account you can skip the password and you will boot to the desktop.

I would assume that would be the case. But that would mean you are not getting any updates during the setup process.

Probably not, but then after Windows is installed, you can always go into Windows update and click the "Look for updates" button. That's what I did when I first set up Windows 10 about four years ago.

After I complete the setup process, and I make some necessary changes, such as, setting the UAC prompt reminder level to 0, I then connect the ethernet cable or, set up the wireless connection, and then get all the updates.

Someone on the MS Disability Help desk told me, if you want to set up your computer with your own user name and password, it was best to disconnect the ethernet cable or turn off the wireless function, before starting the computer with the installation media. . Once you complete the set up process and connect the ethernet cable or, you set up the wireless connection, you can then add your Microsoft account, without affecting the user account information you entered during the set up process.

I'd like to turn off that peskey password requirement on a machine that is already set up. I've read about doing that, but never been successful.

Hello Dave,
If you are doing a clean install of Windows, when you get to the point where it askes you to enter your password, simply hit ENTER. It will skip that process and after the setup you won't need to enter a password each time you login. I've done that on three Windows 11 machines in the recent weeks.
If you have already installed Windows, it is more of a faff to remove the password. But it can be done.

Howard, it is much easier to bypass the password setup during the installation than do it after the fact. But it can be done, although I haven't tried it recently myself. If you're on Windows 11 I would consider doing a clean install to Windows 11. Paul

Since I wire everything I can to my network, disconnecting the Ethernet cable would be the way to go for me. Wired is not only more secure than wireless, it's also faster and more reliable, so I keep wireless connections to the absolute minimum.

I think you have to create a new administrator account as a local account, then make that your primary account. Transfer all you apps, files, and settings to the new account, then delete the old one.
Please make a backup before you try this just in case I'm wrong.

When you set up your local account simply leave the password blank.
