Moderated Need Steps For Adding Bookmarks In Google Chrome

Tom Behler

Hello, everyone.

Can someone send me a set of steps for adding bookmarks in the Google Chrome browser?

I access my bookmarks list via Alt F, followed by B., but can’t seem to find where to add a bookmark for a particular web site.

I previously imported my bookmarks from Internet Explorer into Google Chrome, but only need to add one bookmark at this time.

I also am not sure I can access my Internet Explorer favorites any more.

I’m using Windows 10 here with Jaws 2022 and, I believe, the latest version of Google Chrome.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Thanks!

In Thunderbird, your IE Favorites are listed separately from bookmarks you add in Chrome.  They are listed under "Imported From IE" which appears in the list of Chrome bookmarks.  Press Alt-F, then B, then I repeatedly until you land on the Imported From IE submenu and use the right arrow key to expand the list.  To add a bookmark in Chrome, press Control-D on the web page you want to add, just as you would in IE and give it a name in the dialog that pops up. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to merge IE favorites with Chrome bookmarks into a single, alphabetized list.  To organize your Chrome bookmarks, press Shift-Control-O, and use the context menu to select the sort by name option.  You can use first letter navigation to locate a particular bookmark in Chrome just as you would in IE to locate a particular favorite.

Hi Tom,

It’s control+d.

Slightly weirdly, it immediately adds the bookmark but then let’s you add/remove/edit it.

Cheers,

Ed

I press Alt +space +B. I have to pause briefly between each of these. Then errow down once. Press enter. If you want to change the propagated name, then delete and do so. If you want to use the name that appears, press enter.

I can’t get the Alt Spacebar B command to work.

Once again, I’m using the latest version of Google Chrome.

Control D does work, though.

I think LoriLynn meant the following:

Alt, down-arrow once, b

Even so, control-d is a single step. Separately, I’ve found the editing option helpful, enabling me to assign a name to a webpage that is both short and memorable. Many websites have convoluted names that I don’t want to hear every time I go there.

Sorry, Adrian.

I still can’t get this to work.

I pressed the alt key, waited a second, and then did the down arrow followed by B., and I still get into some Google Chrome search dialog.

At least I can do everything I need with the control D. command.

Dave:

I’ve tried this, and end up in some sort of Google Chrome Search dialog.

I can get control D to work, though, for adding bookmarks, so I guess I’ll just use that command for now.

Tom:

The following keystrokes are single key commands and should be pressed one after another sequentially:

Press the ALT key, then press the DOWN ARROW KEY once, then press the letter B key.

Adrian:

I can’t get Alt down arrow B to work either.  That puts me in some sort of Google Chrome search function.

For now, I’m going to stick with control D, since that seems fairly easy and straight forward.

LoriLynn:

I can’t get the Alt Spacebar B command to work.

Once again, I’m using the latest version of Google Chrome.

Control D does work, though.

I press Alt +space +B. I have to pause briefly between each of these. Then errow down once. Press enter. If you want to change the propagated name, then delete and do so. If you want to use the name that appears, press enter.

Subject: Need Steps For Adding Bookmarks In Google Chrome

Thanks!
