Moderated Internal Links in PDF Documents
So sorry, the issue is that while some documents are created as word documents (all the narrative statements), many of the documents are already in PDF or saved as PDFs because they are email messages. For context, it is a tenure application document, so it has to contain proof of all kinds of academic work I have done over the past 4 years. So, the linking can’t take place until everything is combined into a single PDF.

You don’t happen to mention what application you’re using to prepare the huge document for contract renewal. I understand that the ultimate output will be in PDF format from your subject line but I wouldn’t think composing the original source document using an Adobe product would be ideal. This is a very constructive approach to the problem. However, in my experience with Word 2016, links in a Word document were not preserved when I converted it to PDF. Perhaps someone knows how it can be done. I haven’t tried making the conversion with Word 2019, never mind 2021, which I don’t have installed.
