I use a wired keyboard and just plug it into the pc.
I can keep the top down.  Any normal, wired or wireless will let you just use a normal keyboard, rather than the laptop keyboard which I've never liked.
You can keep the top down, and even put the keyboard on top if you don't want anyone to see your screen.

Supposing you lose speech one day, and you need sighted help to get it back? What if JAWS is running but the soundcard isn’t working? You then have no speech and no screen.
It’s a dangerous setting in my view.

Just type control+ windows +enter to bring up Narrator.

You will at least get your screen back.

Turning the screen off can be a wise security advantage at times depending who has access to seeing your screen.
