Hello Steven:

Thank you for contacting Technical Support.

My name is Dennis, and I am going to be working with you on the inquiry regarding the activation of web site links.

The latest updates of both Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge have had a glitch in the Chromium engine used by both browsers. This has caused links to respond with unexpected results when pressing Enter on a link. Often an Application Context menu appears when you try to activate a link.

An update to these browsers today, has been designed to fix these problems So, you8 should update the browsers, to see if they now behave normally.

You should also update your copy of firefox, to fix this problem as well.

Please know all email communications in this thread will be automatically added to your case until the issue has been resolved.
If you need to contact us by telephone, use the number of 727)803-8600, and please reference the case number provided in the subject line of this message so we can better assist you.

Hi, Albert. This is a problem with the current version of Chrome, and the only solution is to wait for a new update to Chrome, which hasn't come out yet.

Good evening everyone,

What are the steps for doing an update of Google chrome?  It seems that on both on both mine, and my girlfriends computer, after I try and do a search we both receive a thing that says, alt left arrow too go back, and and right arrow too go forward.  If I try using the H key too go from heading, too heading, it won’t advance too the next heading, or a shift H key won’t go back too a previous heading.  I have too hit the escape key, which will turn off the virtual cursor.  Is this something new that google chrome has implemented?

Hi, Steven and list. INSERT plus F7 does work if the problem arises from the context menu being activated when clicking a link. The problem is that, not all clickable elements on a webpage are links. Some clickable elements are actually headings that don't show up as links. If the problem is with a heading that doesn't show up as a link, there is no other way of reaching this element other than tabbing to it, or arrowing to it. Thus, the problem must be solved in some other way. For example you might try turning off the Virtual Cursor with JAWS key plus Z to try and avoid the unwanted context menu behavior.

I confirm the problem has been fixed with today's chrome update,
Didn't encounter any unexpected context menu popups, or non activated
links or buttons on many websites with jaws 2023 beta and 2022. both
work as expected.
Just open the about page in Chrome and wait for a moment that should
update it automatically.

That depends on how long they take to refresh update their code with
chromium's, plus the peoples feedback might have some speeding factor
to an issue like this.

Hello, TC. What version of Chrome do you have. When I check for updates, I have,
Version 106.0.5249.91 (Official Build) (64-bit), and there no more current updates shown than this. I am still experiencing the context menu activation issue with JAWS 2022.

Does routing the virtual cursor to the link (JAWSKEY+NUMPAD MINUS) then executing the Left Mouse Click (NUMPAD /) activate the link?

You have the latest or same as here, a system restart might help,
because when I opened chrome before the fix used the jfw cursor and
was "update progress was there, closed chrome after some minutes and
restarted my PC and all is good.

In this case both of us don't have the latest, or I made a mistake thinking so.
but it works here with no problems after the update.
Cannot say what's different in my settings to do so. my manual forms
mode? or something else.
Please accept my apologies if I gave you and the others false hope of
a speedy full fix for this problem.

I posted this in another thread, but I'll post it here so you don't have to chase after it, I hope it helps you as it has me.

I first tried turning off the virtual cursor but didn't like the effect it had, so I then tried changing the link activation option from simulating a mouse click to sending an enter and it seems to have solved the problem for me.

If you want to try this you can find it under Web/HTML/PDFs > Miscellaneous in the settings center (JAWS+6).

In case anyone needs the information on how to update Chrome, so you can get rid of the context menu activation issue,

1. Open Chrome.
2. Press ALT, followed by the letters f e g.
3. The "About" dialog of Chrome will come up, and Chrome will begin to update. You will know when it is done, because there will be a "Relaunch Chrome" button on the page, once Chrome has fully updated.
4. Press ENTER on that relaunch button, and Chrome will open back up to the About dialog.
5. I always close Chrome again, and reopen it in the normal way.

I confirm the problem has been fixed with today's chrome update, Didn't encounter any unexpected context menu popups, or non activated links or buttons on many websites with jaws 2023 beta and 2022. both work as expected.
Just open the about page in Chrome and wait for a moment that should update it automatically.

In Edge do this, press alt+F, then press H, then press A. Now arrow down to the line where it gives you the version number, if there is a new update it will tell you how far along it is, eventually you'll get a restart Edge button, press it and you are good to go.

I posted this in another thread, but I'll post it here so you don't have
to chase after it, I hope it helps you as it has me.
I first tried turning off the virtual cursor but didn't like the effect
it had, so I then tried changing the link activation option from
simulating a mouse click to sending an enter and it seems to have solved
the problem for me.
If you want to try this you can find it under Web/HTML/PDFs >

Hi, Sandra. I can give you similar instructions for updating Microsoft Edge, but it won't help you until Microsoft puts out the next update.

1. Open Microsoft Edge.
2. Press ALT, followed by F B M.
3. Microsoft Edge will begin to update. Unlike with Chrome, you will get feedback as Edge updates.
4. Once Edge has updated, look for a "Restart Microsoft Edge button, and press ENTER on it.
5. I always close the browser, and reopen it in the normal way.

If Microsoft Edge says that it is up-to-date, you will need to do this every day or so, until a new update comes out that will fix this context menu activation issue.
