Moderated down grading Google Chrome

Hello, I found some instructions to down grade Google Chrome. The instructions say an older version cannot be found on the Google Chrome site. I need to use a third party vendor. Does anyone know if this is correct? I couldn’t find anything on the Google site or the third party vendor Filehippo. Does anyone know of a way to down grade Google Chrome? Thanks, Kevin

This problem with this version of Chrome and now Edge is why I think that automatic updates is a very bad idea and that there should always be an option to uninstall an update.

You might try doing a search for Chrome for business. On Microsoft's Edge for business page you can download older versions of Edge. I just downloaded the last stable build of version 105 and will be downgrading Edge to it, then disabling the automatic update using the method I posted in the "Problem with Chrome" thread and then just leave it that way until they fix this mess they've created.

I wonder if the people that are on the Jaws technical support team, are aware of this issue that we're experiencing with Chrome? This is what always seems too happen, whenever a website does an update where accessibility gets broken, where we have too play catch up.

What is also annoying is that as obvious as this problem appears to be, it makes it seem pretty obvious that they don't do any real accessibility testing before they release something which does nothing but make the problem of always having to play catch up even worse.

Hi, Gene. I just tested Microsoft Edge with Narrator. With Narrator, when clicking on elements on a webpage, the context menu did not come up. This leads me to believe that this is a conflict between something new in Chromium browsers and the JAWS screen reader, not an inherent problem between screen readers as a whole and the Chromium browsers themselves.

Hello Bill:

Can you give me a specific web page? I am now using the JAWS 2023 beta and am not experiencing any problems with activating links on web pages, either with Edge or Chrome.

Oh,

So, now I know it to be a common concern. I was thinking, I was the
only one facing this issue. This particular bug has considerably
reduced my productivity.

I initially started facing this issue in Chrome since that is my
primary browser but it soon started coming up in Edge as well.

Now i don't really know what to do in order to have it fixed.

Has anyone tried JAWS 2023 to see if the same issue comes witgh even
tghat version of JAWS? I can't do it yet since my machine is a
corporate one that's heavily guarded one.

would be awaiting any updates in this regard.

Thank you,

Bharat.

Hello all. I have figured out a bit of a work-around. I am not going to say that it will work in every case, but I have seen it work some in the applications that some of my users use. So if you are clicking on a menu that expands and then offers you links, you can pull up your list of links by pressing Insert plus F7. Press enter on the link from here, and it should work properly. At least, this has been the experience I have had.
Again, it may not work as well for everyone. I just wanted to offer this as an option. Maybe it will help someone. Here is hoping.

Unfortunately that doesn't help me much since I barely know enough about Narrator to get through the Windows setup program. I am pretty much a dedicated JAWS user, it's the only screen reader I know well. But that is good to know.

The problem seems to be a Chrome engine and JAWS conflict since, on the sites where it affects me when using JAWS, it works fine with NVDA.

Hi all as far as using google crome I am also in the same boat. I use https://www.rbcroyalbank.com/personal.html for banking and when I go to enter my password I can't seem to get to that field since crome for some reason doesn't allow me to do so. When I whent to ms edge it worked once but when I whent today to pay some bills it didn't work and I ended up having to use the rbc app since the websight wasn't working on eather edge or google crome.

That might help with links, but I also have problems getting buttons to work.

At this point I think I'm going to switch to Firefox.

So to be clear, the link activation problem list members have been reporting only affects Chrome and Edge versions 106, right?  I am still using Chrome 105 with JAWS 2019 and Windows 7, and it works just fine.

I use both Chrome and Firefox, and since a few updates ago Firefox slowed down significantly for me, I'm also using Waterfox again, now.
Got Chrome v106 here though and don't seem to be having these problems. Using JAWS 2018, even (yes really).

Apparently this problem is from a recent update to the Chromium engine. Unless you have disabled Chrome's automatic updates you will eventually get the 106 version. Hopefully this problem won't affect JAWS 2019 so you'll be OK.

Hi, Curtis. I'm not able to do that at this time, because I haven't found one that isn't a webpage that needs to be logged into before the conflict arises. Maybe someone has a webpage they can share that doesn't require a login before the problem appears.

What is also annoying is that as obvious as this problem appears to be,
it makes it seem pretty obvious that they don't do any real
accessibility testing before they release something which does nothing
but make the problem of always having to play catch up even worse.
