Hey Madison!
By the way, I have a cousin with that name. I've been wondering how to arrange favorites by Date Added. Isn't there a way to do that in Microsoft Edge? The only parameter I've been able to find is "Sort By Name".

Sorry Annabelle but I don’t know if this can be done as I don’t even remember where I went to get them arranged alphabetically so unfortenately I can’t go check and provide you with an answer but hopefully another wonderful list member can help you out

Well if Edge is like its predecessor, in the user
folder, under the user's name, you have folders, and one is called
"favorites".
Try going into that folder, don't select anything,
and change the sort order of the folder's contents.

I'm searching in the folder: C:\Users\MyUserName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data, and I can't seem to find the "Favorites" folder. Am I searching in the wrong spot?

Hi, Annabelle. Personally, I don't believe favorites in Edge can be arranged this way any more, because the Edge favorites are stored in a data file, not as single favorites.

That is likely right, as I only boot to 10, using
it as a host OS, so I am not as familiar with 10 as I am with 7.
And I mostly use FF over Edge.

It isn't, Edge stores its favorites in a proprietary file. To sort your favorites you have to use the favorites manager in Edge. To get there press control+shift+O, you'll get some dialog I've never been able to quite figure out, so immediately after pressing control+shift+O I always press 'B' to get to the first button in the dialog then click it, that will close the dialog and open a new tab with the favorites manager in it.

Browsing history does the same thing. There used to be a setting that would disable that dialog so you would go straight to the history or the favorites manager, but Microsoft, in their infinite wisdom got rid of it as far as I could determine. Gene... On 10/4/2022 1:42 PM, Madison Martin wrote:

Hi Madison and others, The Favorites folder that has resided in your user folder for many years only worked for storing and managing Internet Explorer favorites. It is now more or less an orphan with no particular reason for continuing to exist. The “favorites” in Edge are favorites in name only and behave more like bookmarks in Edge or Firefox. Precisely to avoid the types of problems Madison is having, Chapter 7.7 of my book presents a universal approach for creating a single favorites folder on your computer so you don’t have to figure out how to access and manage them in different browsers. On the Edge Favorites page, which you can get straight to by opening a new tab and pasting, edge://favorites/, into the address bar, there is a "More Options" button in the favorites list pane. The first item if that button is activated is "Sort by name."
If you happened to change the favorite name such that a space or other character like an underscore that sorts before alphabetic characters comes first, then it will sort first at the top of the list. I just verified this by putting a space ahead of the C in my Columbia Gas favorite, which made it sort before AAA when I activated the Sort by Name button. -- Brian - Virginia, USA - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H2, Build 19044 Puritanism: The haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy. ~ H.L. First of all, how do folks get your book; and what is it called/? While I have not read your book or chapter 7.7, I long ago gave up the practice of storing links for a specific browser; rather, I create .htm files of links which I can access from any browser I have on my pcs -- and presumably your approach is something similar but probably a bit more elegant than mine. And, I suspect, it takes less effort than mine does for maintenance. |
