Moderated Ideas why focus jumps or is lost?

In another thread it was noted that sometimes in Chrome, JAWS loses focus or the focus suddenly jumps to the beginning of the page.  I've noticed this too but don't have an idea of why it is happening. Is it because of some kind of application event adds content?  I don't think it is random.

You can try the following but, this is only something to try, I can't say it'll fix the problem.

This might be from the screen refreshing automatically.  If you open Jaws quick settings, Insert + V, while in Chrome and type, refresh, into the search field the, Page Refresh, setting will come up.  Use the spacebar to toggle through the 3 options.  They are automatically, every 60 seconds and off.

After you make a change, if you indeed do, tab to okay and press enter to save / close.

Take care.  Mike.  Sent from my iBarstool.  Go Dodgers!

I am trying this but instead of using quick settings, I used the settings center (insert+6) while in Edge so that the setting would be for the browser and not for any specific web page as quick setting might do.

Hi, Gene. If I turn off Automatic Refresh in Chrome using Quick Settings, it turns AutoRefresh off for all websites in Chrome, not just for the website I visited when I turned off AutoRefresh.

I realise that, if you want to turn it off specifically for web sites where the cursor jumping around is a problem, then you would use quick settings, I just wanted to turn it off completely for testing, if it seems to rtake care of the problem, then I'll turn it back on for Edge, then use quick settings for each site.

The end result is the same, I'm just using a different approach to getting there.

Also, I wonder if this has anything to do with this problem, I found this on the what's new in JAWS 2023 beta page.

"Addressed an issue with the JAWS Virtual Cursor unexpectedly moving back to the top of a web page on pages containing advertisements that constantly update."

Except that what is constantly updating isn't an advertisement.

But it would still be helpful to have explanation of why the problem might be happening. Maybe the webpage changes something about object with the virtual cursor and JAWS gets lost and goes back to the first element.

Issues such as this is why I have 5 browsers on my PCs -- counting first
the Ole IE11 plus Edge, Chrome, Firefox and most recently added Brave.
If one browser handles something better, I just go to that in a specific
instance.
No browser is going to be all things to all people at all times.

Hi Mark,

I share your opinion that something changes on the web page. Might it be a banner or something else. Have you tried out using the TouchCursor instead of VirtualCursor and if yes. does the problem still exists of not? Maybe it's worth a try. And if you know of pages showing this problem it would be fine if you can share it so I can have a closer look about it.

Good luck
