Moderated Do You Adjust this Setting with JAWS or with Outlook?

All:
Last Monday I got a brand new computer installed that has Windows 10 and Microsoft Outlook 2016 version 2208. The most striking difference between the version of Outlook I have now and the one that was on my old computer which I got back in 2013 when there was still Windows 7 is that even when Outlook is closed JAWS starts speaking either a new calendar notification or the content of a new e-mail message when it arrives. This is very distracting, especially if I am listening to something online and whatever I am listening to is interrupted by JAWS reading either a new calendar notification or the content of a newly-arrived e-mail message even though Outlook is closed. Can this problem be corrected either in Outlook or with JAWS? If so, how?

I think you are looking to adjust a couple settings in Outlook. If you go to the Mail options, there are a couple settings you can turn off that should help. There may be additional ones, but start with these. Use Alt F, then T to open the Options dialog. Arrow down once to “Mail and hit space to open that set of options. Tab to the following settings and uncheck them: Show an envelope icon in the taskbar check box‑ not checked‑

Hi,
You don’t have to hit space on Mail, just start tabbing.

Type notification in the Windows Search, you can press the left Windows key for that. Then you can find the Outlook setting and you can turn that off. You can also click on the more button and do other adjustments.

After that checkbox is one that says something about notifications,
uncheck that as well, maybe that is your problem. On Tue, 27 Sep 2022 13:20:34 -0400, Rick Miller wrote: -- Your life is like a penny. You're going to lose it. The question is: How do you spend it? John Covici wb2una covici@... |
