Moderated Accessible Folder/file recovery software for a screen reader
Dave Durber
Hello everyone:
As the subject line indicates, I am looking for an
accessible folder/file recovery program. The other day, I accidentally deleted a
folder on one of the HDD drives on my main computer. Before anyone asks, I have
not changed anything on the drive, since I deleted the folder.
Thanks for any suggestions
Dave

Could it be something as simple as looking in the recycle bin? Or did you do a shift delete and delete it permanently? On Sep 15, 2022, at 8:27 AM, Dave Durber <d.durber@...> wrote:

This may be obvious, but you didn't mention it, so, have you looked in the recycle bin?

I have used something called recuva created by the same company that
does cCleaner. As I remember, it works quite well with screen
readers. They recommend NVDA. It was the first thing that came up
when I searched for recuva on google.

Hello there:
I used the SHIFT+DELETE command, to bypass the
Recycle Bin.

I used to use shift delete all the time, I even went so far as to disable the recycle bin completely. I eventually broke out of that bad habit because it didn't take long to realize that the recycle bin is a great safety net. I just wish that when a program deletes something, that those files went to the recycle bin too.

Executive Software (makers of Diskkeeper) used to have a program called Undelete that added that to Windows, but I haven't been able to find a version that is accessible. Now all of their software is on a yearly subscription, just like Vispero's annual license for JAWS, that is rather expensive for what you are getting. Gene... On 9/16/2022 8:39 AM, Dave Durber wrote:

I copied the contents of a drive to another drive to afolder using the name of the source drive. Having reformatted the drive and copied the contents of the folder back to the root of the reformatted drive, I deleted the contents of the folder on the second drive. Sadly, when I went to look for a file which should have been restored to the reformatted drive, it was not there, hence the reason for the file recovery software. I took the suggestion of someone on the list and downloaded and installed Recuva. It found many of the deleted files but, it did not find the folder name. I am wondering if there is a switch in Recuva, which can tell the program to look for deleted folders, as well as deleted files. Dave ----- Original Message -----
