Moderated JAWS reading the last email address used in a new message

Cynthia Bruce

Hi All,

I am using what I believe is the most recent version of JAWS 2022, Microsoft outlook 2016, and Windows 10. Ever since I upgraded to JAWS 2022, it reads the last email address I typed in the “to” or CC field at the end every line of a new email message. It doesn’t appear when I scroll word by word, but as I proofread a message I am typing and it reaches the end of the line of text, it reads the email address.

Does anyone have any idea what is happening and/or how to stop it?

Many thanks,

Cynthia

Cynthia:

This is absolutely not happening on my system. When did this behavior change for the worse? When you updated to the most recent version of JAWS 2022?

I would take this up with Vispero since we are entitled to free over-the-phone support.

Best wishes,

Curtis Chong

I wonder if this is yet another facet of the problem I have with JAWS 2022 and that is that it doesn't appear to be reliably clearing the speech buffer or whatever it is called. I frequently hear JAWS saying things that were from a window or dialog that was close recently or a long while ago during the current session (between restarts). If it is, the only remedy that I can think of is to try to convince Vispero that there is a bug in JAWS they need to fix. Good luck!

There's only two things I wish they would add to the Stream, and they are bluetooth and more internal memory. I know that the Trek has it but to make room for the GPS components they had to sacrifice some of the Stream's features and what they sacrificed was a deal killer for me so I am staying with the Stream and used an after market memory upgrade for its internal memory.

It happens to me on Windows 11 and JAWS 2022. I've just filed a bug with Vispero. If a group of report, maybe it will move them along quicker?

Gene or someone, can you explain this thing you call the speech buffer. I find it helpful to have some conceptual knowledge of how JAWS works for situations like these.

Gene Warner

That was only a guess, but I would think that JAWS keeps a list of strings that needs to be sent to the TTS voice. After a string has been spoken, it's supposed to be deleted, but apparently that isn't happening reliably so it gets said again and again and so on.

It's only a guess as to what is actually happening, but it fits.

This is happening to me as well.  I don’t have a solution, just confirming the issue.

I tried maximizing Outlook and the behavior continued.
