Hello, What is the email address I need to send my new email address to in order to subscribe?
Thanks,
Kevin

At the bottom of each msg posted on this list, there is an unsubscribe address. Remove the "un" and that's the subscribe address. |

You can log in to your Groups.io account and switch your email address any time you please. In doing it this way, all your existing content remains associated with you and you don't go into new member moderated status again. Addendum: I thought I'd written a tutorial on exactly how to do this, and I did - Changing the Email Address for Your Groups.io Account (docx) -- Brian - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H2, Build 19044 Here is a test to find out whether your mission in life is complete. That's a neat way of switching to a new address; and actually innvolves less steps to boot. As many folks have multiple subscriptions to groups.io lists, is there a way of handling all of one's groups.io lists in a single switch? |

Mike,
Those who have subscribed to multiple Groups.io groups using the same email address need to understand that they have one, and only one Groups.io account, and the login ID for that account is the email address you've repeatedly subscribed with. If you've subscribed to 20 groups using i_am_me@..., and you get yourself set up so that you can log in to Groups.io using i_am_me@..., If you change it to i_am_someone_new@... in the account each and every group now operates with that new address. If you've used multiple e-mail addresses over time to subscribe by email to different groups, then you have multiple Groups.io accounts, one per each address you've used. All of one's groups that used the same email address for initial subscription are automatically switched over to the one you replace it with via the web interface (and there are not now two accounts, the "replace" option just changes the address associated with an account). -- Brian - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H2, Build 19044 Here is a test to find out whether your mission in life is complete. Thanks for the clarification. Hence, subscribing/unsubscribing in the traditional way via email as a means of changing an email address really isn't the way to go. Doing it from the website is really the efficient and quick approach. Now, the only issue is that many many blind users have an intense fear of using unfamiliar websites and consider email the simpler approach. In this instance, email isn't the way to do it. |

Yes, it's a PITA to deal with an unfamiliar website, but if you use the web, period, you're doing that on a not infrequent basis to begin with. Acquiring the skill set to navigate websites, plural, is a real screen-reader basic skill in 2022. And you don't acquire it by avoiding doing it, and there are plenty of people on groups such as this one to help you if you get stuck somewhere. The world doesn't explode when that happens, either. If you're a computer user who uses a web browser, the basics of navigating any page do not differ (though heaven knows that the construction of such web pages to allow or enhance accessibility certainly does). -- Brian - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H2, Build 19044 Here is a test to find out whether your mission in life is complete. I don't have any fear of using a web site. I sent an email yesterday afternoon and by 8 pm I was sent an email to confirm I made the request to add my new email address to the group. To me that sounds pretty quick. Is doing it on the web site better? Thanks, Kevin -----Original Message-----

If we're talking about one group, then perhaps it's 6 of 1 or half dozen of the other. But if you subscribe to multiple lists on the groups.io server, it certainly would be more efficient to do it on the website. But, in this instance, you got done what you needed to do, and, quite obviously, it didn't seem all that complicated on your end. |

But moderated status is a list to list thing; and this list is the only
one on groups.io where I experienced this. It probably bother Brian more than myself as posts got posted within a couple of hours during the brief status. But, yes, if one has numerous subscriptions with Groups.io, the website no doubt is the way to go if someone needs to change all of their addresses. |

I don't have any fear of using a web site.- I haven't seen anyone say or imply that you, Kevin Meyers, have this fear. As it was stated, "many," was used, and many is not all. That being said, the only advantage of using the website as opposed to unsubscribing and resubscribing if we're talking just a couple of groups is the one that Bill White pointed out: You don't go on new member moderated status if you do a change in email address in your Groups.io account. Any time you subscribe using an email address you've never used before you are creating a new Groups.io account as part of that, and you will be considered a new member as a result, even if you're subscribing to a group where you've been a member for a long time with another email address. It really comes down to doing what best fits the situation. And someone put the proposition out there of some member who's subscribed to a great many groups and would like to change to a new e-mail for all of them. There is no doubt that doing an email address change in your Groups.io account is way less labor intensive in that situation. That wasn't your situation, though. -- Brian - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H2, Build 19044 Here is a test to find out whether your mission in life is complete. If you’re alive, it isn’t. |

Groups.io requires at least one form of spam control, and a very great many groups are moderated and the default then is "first message (or first N messages) moderated" for a new user. The other two options are an Announcement Only group, and these are relatively rare, or Restricted Membership where a member must be approved to even join the group to begin with. One of those three methods must be used, and first message moderated, followed by no message-level moderation after the first message is approved, is by far and away the most common. -- Brian - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H2, Build 19044 Here is a test to find out whether your mission in life is complete. Hi Kevin, yes it's absolutely better. If you have more than one group it will change the address for all of them.
