Moderated Specifying a voice for say all?

Gene Warner

Hi everyone!

I was just wondering if it is possible to have the Say All feature use a different voice than the one I use as JAWS' default voice which I have set to Eloquence.

Thanks!

I believe this feature used to be present but was removed long ago (as
in around 2010).

I wonder why they would do that? Eloquence is fine for doing day to day tasks, but when I'm going to have JAWS' read something that might be some what long, such as the monthly newsletter my financial advisor send out, I'd like to be able to listen to it with a more human sounding voice.

Can the invisible cursor read the entire document by routing the cursor to the beginning I never tried this I was just wondering. Maybe Here you can change the voice because I have my invisible cursor change to a female voice and my PC cursor to Tom eloquence I think he’s called.Every country has an identity, history, custom, and culture. It’s a unique landscape in determining how its people Live, work, and play.

I don't necessarily need it to always start at the beginning of the document, starting from where my cursor is works fine for me. If say all uses the invisible cursor, how do you change the voice the invisible cursor uses?

Thanks!

I do something like what you are after by having a voice profile that
uses Eloquence as my normal default but then having another that uses
vocalizer for programs that I am actually likely to listen to long
passages. (I.E Firefox, Word, wordpad, edsharp).

I have eloquence set so fast that if I actually try using it for say
all after a bit its buffering is complete and the speed kicks up
another notch and I can no longer understand it.

Check out Voice Adjustment, set context to Say All where it says All Contexts, then make your changes.

Sorry Jean, it's not there, I thought it was.

So you'd have to create a new voice profile and have it trigger on Say All.

The url says it's in the daisy folder on the Freedom Scientific web tree, and they look like daisy files. Not sure what the msi installer is for though. You can play these with the ez-reader or whatever they call it that comes bundled with the shark.

Gene,

Here's how I accessed the files. When I clicked on the link provided by Steven,
https://support.freedomscientific.com/content/downloads/daisy/VoiceProfiles.exe
an executable file went to my downloads folder. I pressed enter, and soon I was told that files had been extracted.
I then opened the JAWS menu and went to "Help," and then "Training." After pressing enter on Training, this particular session appeared. I pressed enter again, and a DAISY file opened in FS Reader.

I agree, FS should have included some details about how to follow this sequence. However, it is tiresome when you lash out at Vispero. Pose the question, yes, and write to Vispero with a suggestion for how to clarify the procedure. However, I for one find your unrelentingly hostile attitude tiresome. I don't know where I'd be without JAWS.

I don't know what the web tree is or where it is.

I assume that the MSI installer is for FS Reader to either update it or to install it if it isn't on the machine you install the training files on.

I found out that the EXE is just a self extracting zip file, so I unpacked it with 7zip, so now I I'll know where to find them with FS Reader.

Sorry Jean, it's not there, I thought it was.

So you'd have to create a new voice profile and have it trigger on Say All.

I don't necessarily need it to always start at the beginning of the document, starting from where my cursor is works fine for me. If say all uses the invisible cursor, how do you change the voice the invisible cursor uses?

Thanks!

I read your message up to the point where you lashed out at me for what you called my hostility towards Vispero.

I too wouldn't know what I'd be doing without JAWS, but that doesn't give Vispero a pass on their very poor tech support or their lack of providing even a simple line of instruction on how to use the training file. And from experience I have found that trying to talk to Vispero is comparable to talking to a brick wall.

And since turn about is fair play, I'll tell you what I get very tired of and that is people who use their email signature to spam everyone else with advertising as you do.

I agree, FS should have included some details about how to follow this sequence. However, it is tiresome when you lash out at Vispero. I've found Vispero's support staff to be responsive and interested in finding solutions. Last year, I had an especially vexing problem that they couldn’t replicate, but they not only kept working with me, but even initiated contact when an idea occurred to them. This was to do with the JAWS dictionary and how a large number of entries was somehow affecting JAWS's verbalization on the Web.

Again, asking questions and making suggestions is appropriate and what this list is about. Repeatedly trashing the very company that gives life to this list distracts from your sometimes substantive posts.

And no, I'm not a moderator, and I apologize to everyone for taking this detour. I won't pursue this thread further.

Yeah, I figured it was an archive, so the first thign I did was open it with 7zip.
The tree is part of the url. So it goes content/downloads/daisy/blah-blah.exe. Something like that 9i deleted the emssage now so I'm not sure). There are probably instructions somewhere on the training page, but the original poster just provided the direct link to the exe file.

Hi Jean,

No, the way you open that training is a bit geeky.

If you have installed the module, go into FS Reader, Control O then put the following path:-

"C:\Program Files\Freedom Scientific\Training\JAWS\enu\VoiceProfiles\ncc.html"

That will open the training module. From there, Control P will play audio or pause it, or you can read it textually.
