Moderated USB flash drive recommendations

Not sure you’ll get much in the way of specific thoughts here. I think most people just buy whatever’s convenient, plug in, and expect it to work. Nonetheless, this page seems a good place to start. Takea look at the suggestions here.

Unfortunately the only recommendation I can give you is for a product that is no longer being sold and they are not flash drives. I use a set of Seagate Free Agent Go USB external hard drives to store my backups. What they are selling now I believe are called Free Agent One Touch external drives, I believe that the main difference between these and the Free Agent Go drives is USB 3.0 versus 2.0.

I've got one of those, and they are a fairly good product. The biggest thing I've found when wanting to use a drive for backup is to get one several times larger than my hard drive. This way I can keep several older backups on it.

For size, you really only need to get one that's two or three times bigger than the amount of space you are using. So even if you have a one terabyte drive, but are only using about 300 gigabytes, a one terabyte drive for backups would allow for three backups to be stored on it.

My husband, who is a tech does this for me. He also has it set up to use something else to back it up besides Windows. I like to have an original backup that occurs at the moment I get a new computer and have it all set up. I keep that one, then I make backups about every month or two and keep at least 3 or 4 more. The thing my husband says is that you can get something on your computer and if you don't notice it right away, it can be there in all of your backups, unless you have one going back far enough where it doesn't. Mine is half a terabyte and I've got a 3 terabyte drive. Karen -----Original Message-----
