Moderated Problem after searching for text in office Docs
I just updated my Microsoft 365 software yesterday. I am not finding what you are finding using the CTRL+F command in Word to search for text.
Incidentally, do you know that you can ask JAWS to find something in a word document by pressing the JAWS key with the letter f? Once you do the first search, you can repeat the search by pressing JAWS key with F3.
Cordially,

Subject: Problem after searching for text in office Docs
Can anyone else reproduce this? This is not a new problem. I’ve been encountering it for a while now. Open up Microsoft word. I have office 365. I’m using jaws 2022. Search for any text. After doing the search, close out that dialog box going back to viewing the word document. Now, try to go down page by page by hitting control page down. Before you conducted the search for the text, control page down moved to the next page. After conducting the search, control page down says something to the effect of search had been completed and you’re taking all the way down to the bottom of the last page no matter where you are in the document. After doing the search it appears that control page down or control page up no longer has the same functionality. This is the case even if you close out Microsoft Word and re-open it.
See this page for your preferred solution, depending on whether you want to be toggling the behavior when it occurs or making a permanent change to force CTRL + PgUp/Dn to only move by pages.

Hi James,
I have always or at least for a long time found that the function of control+page up/down changes after you’ve conducted a search so that the commands cycle through search results rather than move you between pages. The only slightly clunky workaround I know of is to use control+g after you’ve conducted a search to go to a specific page, probably the page that you are already on if you don’t want to lose your place too badly.
This will restore the normal functionality to these commands.
Cheers,
Ed

The functional difference between the two search options is that the Word control-f will look for the search string, whether a word or letters within a word, while JAWS's insert-f searches only for words.

You are absolutely right. This is incredibly frustrating.
Regarding the original problem, the only way to restore the page up and down functions and to clear out the repeating find is to perform a Control g, type in a page number, and press Enter. Then page up and page down perform the normal page navigation again. Regrettably, there is no way to prevent this problem from occurring.
Best regards,

Yes, there is, and the link I posted earlier, https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/resetting-find-so-that-ctrlpgdn-or-pgup-doesnt/bbe806e6-cd14-4d25-9048-b24e23f4dcd5, gives it. And I quote:
In the Customize Keyboard dialog box, re-assign Ctrl+PgUp to the PrevPage command and also re-assign Ctrl+PgDn to NextPage.
To display the dialog box, click File > Options > Customize Ribbon > Customize.
Choose the "All Commands" category. In the list of "Commands," locate PrevPage. Click in the "Press new shortcut key" box and type Ctrl+PgUp. Click the Assign button at the bottom of the dialog box. Repeat the procedure for NextPage and Ctrl+PgDn. Make sure that "Save changes in" is set to the "Normal" template. Close all dialog boxes to confirm the settings.
-----------------
This makes these two keystroke combinations have only PrevPage and NextPage as their functions. They can no longer dynamically change.
I am not going to make a habit of doing what I just did above. When I post an external reference, and clearly state that two alternatives, on a toggle (the CTRL + G technique) and one permanent (above) are given, I expect people to actually refer to them. There's no reason to cut and paste, the information is there with just a click and a little reading.

If you are using a file someone else sent you, then you would need to do those same steps, but saving to that file rather than Normal.dotm is what you'd need to do to make the change take effect there. Otherwise, use the CTRL + G technique to flip the switch back to the previous/next page function from the previous/next found instance for a search.

It has perennially occurred to me. The way I restore the normal use of cntrl-pgdown is by clicking cntrl-g, press the next button which takes me to the next page and then I hit esc. There may be better ways, but this has been my solution.
