Show Virtual Viewer on Screen

Use this check box to specify whether the Virtual Viewer is visually

application like PowerPoint, it might disrupt your presentation to
display the Virtual Viewer. JAWS functions the same in these messages

Virtual Viewer

The Virtual Viewer is a message window allowing you much greater
functionality with many JAWS messages. Press INSERT+F1 to experience a
message in the Virtual Viewer. While INSERT+F1 messages are the
messages most frequently displayed in the Virtual Viewer, other
messages appear there as well:

Hot Key Help Messages (INSERT+H)

Windows Key Help messages (INSERT+W)

Screen Sensitive Help Technical messages (CTRL+INSERT+F1)

Several types of informational messages within Microsoft Office
applications

Easily review information with standard reading commands. Read by
line, word, or character. Select text as you would in any word
processing program and copy it to the clipboard. Press CTRL+HOME or
CTRL+END to move to the top or bottom of the message.

Links take you to other messages or activate commands within your
applications or within Windows. Press ENTER to select a link, or press
INSERT+F7 to list all links in a message and select the one you want
from the list.

Press ESC to close a message, or just TAB to the next control in a
dialog and the message closes automatically. The following commands
also perform their normal actions and automatically close the Virtual Viewer:
SHIFT+TAB, CTRL+TAB, F1, INSERT+J, INSERT+F1+F1, CTRL+ESC.

By default, messages are visible on the screen in the Virtual Viewer,
and this is very helpful for sighted trainers. However, the Virtual
Viewer can be set so it is not visible on the screen. Change this in
the Basic Settings Dialog under the Options menu in the JAWS
application window, or in the User group in Settings Center.

If you want the Virtual Viewer visible in some applications, but not
others, do the following:

Open Settings Center (INSERT+F2) and select an application in the
Applications combo box.

Expand the User group.

Select or clear the Show Virtual Viewer on Screen check box to toggle
the Virtual Viewer setting on or off.

Hi,

I went into Jaws and alt f and arrowed down to basics. I pressed enter
and tabbed down to the box to check to put Jaws in the system tray.
Just under that was another box that was checked which I don’t know
what it is or what it does. It was

“show virtual viewer on screen”. Can anyone tell me what this is?

Also, when I checked to put it in the system tray, it is still in the
alt tab line up when I cycle through programs using that keystroke. Is
there something else I need to do?

If it is not in the System Tray, there may be other things that are going on to get it there. You may have to contact Tech Support at Freedom Scientific. It that doesn’t help fix the problem, contact me privately and I possibably could fix it for you if you would allow me to have a Tandam session into your computer with JAWS.
