Moderated disabling external services

Hi Bill!

I almost forgot!

Two things to be aware of:

1. I believe that you need to download the offline installer to do the disabled external services install.
2. The installer is not self voicing while doing an install with all external services disabled.

Hi Bill!
Sorry for the delay getting back to this thread and responding to your question.
I don't recall where I got this from, I think it was one of the installer help messages you can invoke with a command line option.
--- start ---
Installation Command Line Option for Disabling External Services
Starting with the April 2021 releases of JAWS, ZoomText, and Fusion, when performing a full install, IT professionals and network administrators can add the command line option: /DisableExternalServices to turn off all product features that reach out to the internet.
For example:
c:\\InstallerPackage.exe /DisableExternalServices
Once JAWS, ZoomText, or Fusion is installed after using this command line option, features that are no longer available for use include Research It, FS Support Tool, Voice Assistant, Error Reporting, JAWS Tandem, Picture Smart, and Anonymous Usage Data Collection. Note that using the software in a remote access environment will still be available.
--- end ---
To make this work, if JAWS is already installed, you'll have to uninstall it first. Note that your settings should remain intact but it doesn't hurt to make a backup of them first. I do not recommend using the JAWS export/import utility to do the backup. Instead I used Explorer and copied the entire settings folder.
Once you have done the install this way, all future update install will respect your choice and not install any of the external services during the update.
If you change your mind and want the external services back, you'll have to uninstall JAWS again and reinstall it without disabling external services.
If you only want to disable some of the services, like Sharky, you can do that using an .INI file.

If you are referring to Sharky, in the settings center there is a
setting to disable Sharky.

Until I started installing JAWS with all external services disabled, it
was one of the first things I would do.
