Moderated pdf and bookmarks

Karen Reynolds

Hi,

Does anyone know how to insert a bookmark into a pdf? Then go back to it later?

Karen,

I just tried JAWS’s traditional placemarker setting in a PDF file, and they worked. For example, at the point where you want a temporary bookmark/placemarker, press control-Windows key-k. When you wish to return to that spot, press k, and you’ll be taken right there.

For permanent placemarker settings, press control-shift-k. After that, use your arrow and tab keys to view your choices.

So if I wanted to use it to mark my place temporarily, close the pdf, a day or so later come back to it. I could use the temporary one? And how do I get rid of them when I don’t need them?

Hi Karen,

You need to make them permanent using the steps outlined by Adrian. You can only have one temporary place marker at a time, so are not very useful just by themselves.

I believe a temporary placemarker survives only so long as the document stays open. So when you wish to return to your place after closing a document, work with the dialog that comes up when you press control-Windows key-k. Tab once and you’ll get add. Then tab through the options. To remove a placemarker, reopen that dialog, tab once, then arrow down to delete, and once again tab through your options.

So it is better to make a permanent one and when I want one further down, delete the first one somehow and make another permanent one?

Actually, you can have as many permanent ones as you like. To add a second, or a third, etc., reopen the dialog and tab to “Add.” Press the spacebar, then tab through your options. Just keep in mind that if you have a lot on one document, you might defeat the convenience of placemarkers.

Hi Karen,

Don’t worry about deleting temporary placemarkers. Because temporary means you can only have one at a time, after you have created your first temporary placemarker, simply navigating elsewhere in the document makes that new place a new temporary placemarker and and the old one is no onger a placemarker.

David

Hi David,

Thanks. This makes sense. And if I wanted to remove permanent ones, I’m guessing I use the dialog box, correct?
