Hi again, Eileen. What I might suggest is that, when you get the notification of the latest FS podcast in JAWS, instead of clicking the play button, go to the FS podcast archives, find the latest episode, click the link, find the link inside, and right click it to download. If the file is sitting in your Downloads folder, and you press ENTER on the file to play it, it may play all the way through without any problems.

Hi Curtis,
Haha, I don’t think I’ll wait on MS for a repair. You seem to be indicating that Media Player is the cause of the problem I’ve been having. What exactly is VLC Player? I should have stated in my previous message that I primarily am using MS Edge these days. I am not married to Media Player just want to find a reliable solution.
Thanks.

If you want to stick with Media Player, then you would be best served by working with Microsoft to fix the problem. I myself only use Media Player when I do not any other choice. For me, VLC Media Player works just fine. There will be a learning curve for VLC, however, so be forewarned.

Hello All,
I updated my Jaws a few days ago and as usual, this morning when I turned on the computer I got the dialog from Jaws that the FS Cast for June was available to listen to. As always I clicked on the listen now option and it began playing in Windows Media Player. I am using the most recent version of Jaws on a Windows 11 desktop that I got last December.
The problem is and has been for months on this new computer that mid-way through the playing it just bombs out. The only message that is shown says something like, “Windows Media Player has encounter a problem with the file.” I did call FS tech support this afternoon and they recommended going to the Freedom Scientific web site and trying to play the FS Cast in my browser’s pod cast player. I have yet to give this a try only because its time consuming and I haven’t had time today to spend another half hour fiddling around trying to get it to play through to the end. Has anyone else encountered this problem and any thoughts on if just playing in the browser’s podcast player will be the fix? I know on my old Windows 10 computer I always could listen to the entire thing using Media Player. Not sure what the problem is now that could cause this.
Thanks for any input on this.

Eileen,
I thought I’d drop in to simply say that this is not a Media Player problem. I do not have problems and I prefer MS Media Player. Also, when streaming bits as these FS podcasts are streamed, it is commonly the host you use where you either have not enough bandwidth or your down stream / download connection is the problem with not being enough to keep the show in play. If Jaws is freezing up, it is the TTS software but with my pc, I’m still using Windows 11 with the latest Jaws version. I often do switch back to 2019 version when I am using zoom, for example, and never have a problem but often I do have issues with the current. Sometimes you can try different versions and figure out which is working best for whatever program you are using. Regarding the FS podcast and Media Player, I truly do not believe it is Media Player since I use exactly what you have and without any problems.
Good luck,
Rick
