Maddison, I think you need help from Tech Support at Freedom SWcientific. This was also suggested by another list member.

Okay, there’s only one item in my system trey and when I try and go to my start menu by typing start menu into the run dialog box it brings up file explorer and then a message saying that this location isn’t available. I did a search for disk clean-up in the search box I had trouble accessing it.

Follow these steps:

If using the laptop keyboard layout your modifier key is the Shift Lock. On a desktop keyboard layout, to get to the system tray, use the Jaws/Insert key on the numpad and press F11. Arrow down and see what is in the system tray.

Another problem you could be having is a need to run a Disk Cleanup for there could be a lot of stuff that has been accumulating on your hard drive that you don’t need.

To runDisk Cleanup go to your Start Menu and type Disk Cleanup and press enter. Go through the checkboxes and wherever you see numbers of files that have accumulated, make sure that the checkbox is check. Tab over to run the disk cleanup and follow the prompts. This will help.

After doing that you need to check to see if you are up-to-date with Windows and your Office Suite.

As far as I can tell I don’t have anything pinned to the taskbar; I’m still not sure how to get to the system trey though…

One way is to tab to it—you should hear taskbar.

Ok, then tell us what applications are in your system tray and what is pinned to the taskbar.

You don’t answer my questions people on this list may not be able to help.

Maddison,

Can you tell us what programs are being loaded in the System Tray?

Also, can you tell us what programs do you have pinned to your Taskbar?

It might be that you have unnecessary programs in the System Tray that you don’t need running and too many programs that are pinned to the Taskbar.

This is an issue you should take up with Freedom Scientific. I have noticed myself that if an Outlook message is of the complicated web page variety, JAWS will take a few seconds to go through it and then convert the view to a virtual one. However, if something else is going on with your versions, then you need to escalate this so that Freedom Scientific Technical Support can work with you to see why this is happening.

Cordially,

I have a similar odd message problem that only happens with NY Times newsletters. But I don’t have a Braille display so don’t know if JAWS is still reading.

That happens for me is that sometimes JAWS can read the entire message/newsletter but, more often, if I open a link from it, when I go back to the message to read another story, JAWS is silent.  Sometimes I can escape from the original message and start over but sometimes, I need to close Outlook and reopen it.

I am using latest JAWS 2022, Office 365 and Windows 10
