moderated Duplicating JAWS settings on a second computer
Mark
Does any one know of good references for copying JAWS settings from one computer to a second computer? I have some scripts I want to be sure to have, amongst other settings, sounds, and things.

Take a look at the Import/Export Settings functions in the JAWS Utilities Menu.

Hi, Curtis. Will the Export function of JAWS export custom scripts contained in the JAWS folders, or only the normal JAWS settings?

I do not know. I suspect there is a user folder that can be copied in its entirety to capture custom scripts, etc. But since I have never done this, my advice here would be, at best, guess work.

If you navigate to c:\users\<your user name>\appdata\roaming\freedom
scientific\jaws\<jaws version> you will eventually get to a folder with the name of your language. This folder has everything, so copy that folder to your other computer. I have had to do this a number of times -- not to a different computer, but for other reasons, and it seems to work all the time. The folder it's all under is called, enu.
It, appropriately enough, is a folder under settings. It's path is C:\Users\hp envy\AppData\Roaming\Freedom Scientific\JAWS\2022\Settings\enu It's a good idea to periodically back it up; and certainly before one attempts to make modifications such as those regularly mentioned on this and other lists. BTW, the credit for this suggestion goes to Brian Hartgen who brought it up in his recent Jaws Muscles course which, of course, can be purchased through his website. The neat thing with Brian'scourses is not only you get the audio presentations but also transcripts in .rtf format which can be quickly searched when you wish to review something. They are well worth the money. Anyway, returning to the question, back up enu regularly for a more complete back-up then offered by JAWS itself.

How about using the settings packager provided for this purpose by FS?

Copying the /enu folder provides a more complete copying of settings --

that's the reason.

Hi,
A better way in my view than using JAWS export/import stuff, is to go to Utilities, then Explore Utilities Folder, then Explore My Settings.
Once in there, Copy Control A and Control C, everything to the clipboard, and paste it onto a USB stick or another drive.
Next go into the other JAWS machine, go to Utilities, Explore Utilities, Explore My Settings, and paste everything in there that you copied.
This assumes that both versions of JAWS are the same version, but all the scripts and everything should come over.
All the best
Steve

I agree with doing it this way, especially after I had the import utility refuse to import any of my settings from an export file. It is now also my preferred way to backup my settings.
