Moderated Unknown Function Call in Zoom
Steve Matzura
I don't know if this is a user problem or a scripting problem, someone will clear up that question and carry on with the answer on the right list.
In JAWS 2022, current build, I'm getting the following error when I press Control plus Shift plus T in Zoom to hear the identity of the currently speaking conference participant: Unknown function call to ClearLastNotificationAppName Of course, the function name is first spoken, then spelled. I am not using any third-party or homebrewed scripts for Zoom--this is straight outa-the-box JAWS. Works fine in 2021, best in 2020, all on current Zoom, 5.10.4.5035. Thanks in advance. |

Definitely related to JAWS scripts, though if not everyone is experiencing this, there could be some user setting on zoom, possiblys omethign that changes display layout somehow, so that the script function doesn't perform as expected.

I believe Mario has posted several times about this function and the newly created defect in JAWS 2022.

Hi, Adrian. I'm not experiencing this unknown function call using the latest Skype scripts from Doug Lee with the latest JAWS, the latest version of Zoom, using Windows 10, latest build, on either of my two PC's, laptop and desktop. I'm wondering what may be different about Steve's machine that may be causing this behavior.

Hi, Adrian and list. The reason I mentioned Doug Lee's Skype scripts is that these are the only custom items I am running on my machine. I understand that the Zoom scripts don't have anything to do with Zoom.

Hi all, There is a version of JAWS available at the below link that fixes this and other Zoom issues. The Zoom issues are the only fixes to this version and these fixes will be in the June update.

Could be, but you know how these things go. Until you have the problem, you tend not to notice messages about it as they fly by you.

Who said anything about Skype? Or Doug Lee, for that matter?

Hi, Steve. I only mentioned the Skype scripts and Doug Lee because this is something custom which I have on my system, and could affect the function of other software. By now, you should know that when a problem comes up, people want to know which versions of the operating system, screen reader, browsers, and email clients, as well as anything that is a custom setting or software on the machine involved. So your question:

Who said anything about Skype? Or Doug Lee, for that matter? is unwarranted. I am only cooperating with the JAWS and Windows communities, giving them the information they might need to reproduce or figure out from where the problem might originate. Still...the skype scripts would onlya ctivate if skype.exe was running. That's how jaws scripts "know" to be activated -- by matching the script with the name of the programme executable. So unless you are running skype and zoom at the same time, the skype scripts would not affect anything zoom, as they would not even be invoked at any time.

I wasn't being snarky. I was hoping to point you to a thread that might help and that you could look up in the list archive. If I'd kept that thread, I would have included it with my reply. Mario's information is typically reliable. -----Original Message-----

This makes sense. However, sometimes developers produce scripts that work with more than one function. For example, Brian Hartung's Team script also works with Outlook. I didn't realize it until encountering his tutorial on his Outlook script, only to learn that you need to buy the Team script in order to have access to that useful-sounding Outlook script. -- My novel Caroline is now available in paperback, Kindle and audiobook versions: https://adrianspratt.com/book/ -----Original Message-----

I didn't mean to impugne or imply ... I was actually trying to excuse myself for not knowing and following that old thread because I didn't even know I had the problem when that thread was out, and just ignored it. Not smart on my part.
