Moderated Word 365
Mark Arnold ABG
List,
When using Word in previous versions, I was always prompted to save changes. In 365 if I close out, it does not prompt me to save. It just automatically saves the changes. I do not like this feature. Is there a way to change it?
Thanks in advance, Mark |

I always use F12 to close out a Word document. This way JAWS also verbalizes the document’s name, which is helpful when I’m working on several documents at once. F12 also ensures I’m prompted to save changes.

Greetings:
I am running what I believe to be the latest version of Microsoft Word 365, Microsoft Word Subscription Version 16.0.15028.20152. I created a new document, made some changes and tried to close the program. I was definitely prompted to save the document.
I do not understand how your software is behaving differently from mine.😀
Kindly,
Curtis Chong

When my company switched us to OneDrive, it also turned on a setting in Office that automatically saves documents periodically. I see the advantage of this, but it interfered with the way I often work with documents, so I turned off the feature. I suspect this is turned on which automatically saves your document upon closing. In my instance of Office, I think the button is up on the Quick Access Toolbar. press and release the alt key, then hit the up arrow. That should put you on the Quick access Toolbar where you can arrow to the left and right to find the autosave button. There is probably another way to access it, maybe in File / Options.

Curtis,
I may not be describing my problem correctly. If I open an existing document and make changes to it and then hit alt F4 to close the document, I am not prompted to see if I want to save the changes. It just automatically closes and contains the changes. Sorry for the very long run on sentence. Hope that made sense…

Thanks so much! That did the trick. BTW, the option was located on the quick access tool bar as you suggested, and I turned it off.
I love the assistance I receive from this list! Mark
