I read through the article and obviously paying $70 for 365 makes sense financially, however it really bugs me to have to pay $70 a year for something that I won’t use at least half of what it includes. If email is your primary concern there is always Windows Mail (built in to Windows10) or Mozilla Thunderbird. Both require a certain amount of up front learning as do most things new in software.

If finances are a concern, you can see if you can find an individual retail license to Office.  I did this a few years ago when I bought my latest computer. At the suggestion of someone on this list, I looked on ebay and found a retail copy of Office 2016.  Office 2019 had come out, but I wanted to use the same office as we were using at work back then.  Anyway, I’m still using that license on my personal laptop.  While I don’t like the idea of paying $70 a year to move to Office 365, I am considering it, but, unlike  you, I do use Word, Excel and Outlook a lot at home.  Having said all this though, when my husband got a new laptop a few months ago, I looked on ebay again for a single license for Office 2019 for him and the prices were much higher than I expected. I’m not sure if that is because it was a version higher than I had purchased or if supply and demand.  I thought I heard somewhere that Microsoft was doing away with individual licenses, so it could be that you just cannot easily buy one anymore.
