Moderated Dell laptop seems sluggish on battery...
Dale Heltzer
I am puzzled as to why my Dell laptop is slower in response when it's on battery than when on AC.
Power Management is Adaptive. The battery is good. Do any of you hardware ninjas out there have a credible explanation? TIA |

There might be some explanations for this. First of all, do you have a discrete graphics card in your laptop, like an NVIDIA graphics card? Perhaps by setting that as the default graphics card might increase performance. You could also go into device manager, and under the network adapters, assuming it's a realtek wifi adaptor, you can disable the minimum power consumption. I only know this based off my experiences with a dell laptop. On 2/20/2022 11:36 AM, Dale Heltzer wrote:

It is slower because they are trying to give people the long battery life they want, and the only way to do so is to reduce performance. You can always turn off all the power saving, and then your battery will do well to last two hours most of the time. Some laptops have function key combinations to turn off the screen or reduce the brightness, you might first see if you can do either if you don't need to see the screen, if you were to do so, turning off some of the power management to get better performance might allow you to still get some battery life.

Your power plan might be set for Balanced plan, rather than High Efficiency plan, so the processor may work slower to save battery power.

I would advise to keep up with windows and driver updates. My Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 was sluggish on battery causing JAWS to keep stuttering until I installed a quality windows 10 feature and an intel display driver update. After that it seems to be running ok even on battery saver mode. HTH Debbie -----Original Message-----
