moderated Jaws 2021 and OCR component not install
James Lockwood
I recently built a new computer. I have windows 10 professional. I installed open book 9, the latest version. I then installed Jaws 2021 from the off-line 1.3 GB installation file. But, the OCR component is not installed. that is what I keep getting told whenever I try to OCR a PDF. I called Support and all they told me was make sure windows is up-to-date. That is pretty infuriating. I have sent try to remove jars, completely along with all shared components and then reinstalled it. No different. I have installed all my previous versions of jaws, 2018, 2019, 2020 while also having 2021 on the computer, still, OCR component not installed. Any help much appreciated

The install requires you to be online. I assume you were? With JAWS 2022, the OCR component was installed when I invoked an OCR function. But, of course, I understand you to be using JAWS 2021. Can you run a repair while ensuring your computer is online? Regards, Curtis Chong

Yes. My computer was online. I have Jaws 2020 2021 and 2022. I use the offline file, and the online smaller file. When I write and click and do OCR with jaws it simply says component is not installed. I’ve even turned off all the security through windows firewall etc. Still, component not installed. I also tried repair. On all three. No difference

Hi Jim
I install Jaws first as well. Bill’s suggestion helps. Yes it did work at least it did last week. For some reason however after I installed Kurz well now I’m back to OCR component not installed. I have subsequently removed all the programs jaws open book, and Kurzwell and just installed jaws and it’s still saying component not installed. By the way, calling Freedom Scientific is a waste of time. Last week their suggestion was to run Windows update. This week they tell me adobe DC professional PDF reader will cause an error and that you have to use the free Adobe reader. So I uninstalled professional DC and installed the free Adobe reader, still same error. And I know that DC professional works withAnd I know that DC professional works with it because it did and still does on my prior windows machine. And despite the fact that jaws, downloads or at least it’s supposed to, the OCR component from one of their servers, there’s no way they can get you a link to download just that item. This is entirely unacceptable. The customer service is a farce. I think they flip a coin or pull a number out of a hat to determine what to tell you to do next so you get off the phone.
