Moderated Discovery! copying text from a zoom chat

Ann Byrne

I discovered to my joy that I can copy text from a zoom chat. Pressing ctrl+1 displays the most recent chat message. Ctrl+1 presssed twice quickly makes the text editable. then just select and copy! This is true of any chat message displayed via the ctrl+# command.

thanks Ann, this will be very handy. I assume the text is virtualized and once copying what is needed, simply pressing the escape key returns to Zoom?

I don't know for certain, but I would Imagine it would start with 2020 since that's when basic scripts for Zoom were included with fresh installations of JAWS.

Yeah, but they could have done better.

Ctrl+1 pressed three times should copy it to the clipboard.

I don’t believe that does work with control 1 does it?

Hi, Crayton. No, it doesn't. Steve was just saying that if they had created that command, it would have been an improvement. I'm not sure I agree. You can always create more and more commands, but CONTROL plus C isn't that much more of a stretch than pressing CONTROL plus one again.

No, but it would be nice wouldn't it. NVDA does a lot of this stuff. For example, if you press the read line key on NVDA three times, it copies it to the clipboard. It's neat, and I'm surprised that FS haven't picked up on it.

I know of another way to save Zoom chat messages. Go to the area where the chat messages are. Pressing Control plus the letter A selects all of the chat messages. Then you copy them to the Clipboard using the Control+C key combination. Afterwards, open Notepad and then paste the content into a Notepad document and save it.
