moderated Latest JAWS update causing all grammatical, spelling errors to be announced

Cristóbal

Ha... mystery solved.
Starting with the April 2021 updates of JAWS and Fusion, Grammar detection
in Settings Center is on by default for all applications except Word and
Outlook. This enabled JAWS and Fusion to automatically announce grammatical
errors in web-based editors like Google Docs.
If you're getting this in Outlook or Word, then who knows. Maybe thigs just
went wonky during the installation. As has been mentioned it's easy enough
to go into the corresponding settings to adjust this behavior.

I was about to say, isn’t this a setting in Jaws? I know I've turned these
settings off.

Now that I think about it.
They probably need to check their Word settings.
Grammar as you type and spelling as you type are also word settings under
its options proofing.

Yes, I want Jaws to speak up if I make a typo, or run words together, but I
don't want to hear every punctuation mark while reading.
That is likely a Jaws setting.

I go all the way back to 2018 JAWS and have always had spelling or
grammatical mistakes read out to me. It could be as simple as not putting a
space after a comma, JAWS tells me about it. Mind you it has never been to
the extent that is mentioned below. My point is though, reading out
mistakes is not new.

this is a new feature of JAWS 2021, latest build. Go to settings center,
text processing, proofing. You can turn it off there.

In my experience, and I think others as well, it is best to go to the web site and download the file and install it, rather than using the update from with in Jaws.

I’ve had no problems doing it that way while those who seem to have problems have updated from within the Jaws update.

Puzzling,

Richard

Hi
I am using eloquence and although going into settings followed by text processing and then proofing didn't work, I then tried directly with the Word program. I went into options,  and control tab to proofing and unchecked things under there. Voila - it worked and I was getting these plus word count, repeated headings etc. I don't know what I did but the only conscious change that I had made was to download and install the JAWS update directly using the update notification

Thanks All for your suggestions

cheers

It is not on by default for me using Vocalizer Expressive.
So, unless it has different defaults with different synthesizers, it is odd that they are having such a problem.

I have not had any of this kind of behavior.

Which speech synthesizer are you using?

How did you do the installation; From the Jaws update, or from downloading the file and running it?

Did you do anything else with settings other than just installing the update?
