Moderated Jaws and links within emails

Madison Martin

Hi all,
I've had an issue on and off that when I click on a link within an email I'm
taken to the subject of the email and not the webpage that the link is for. This
is extremely annoying especially when it happens with verification emails, is
there anything I can do to prevent this from happening in the future? I've tried
changing the format that email messages are displayed in, but this hasn't made
any difference, I know someone told me that when I'm on a link I can bring up
the context menu and get something that says open hyperlink or something, but
I've tried this and have not yet found such an option. I'm running the latest
versions of Jaws, Edge, Office 365 and Windows 10. Look forward to any help
anyone can provide me, everyone's help is always much appreciated!!!! Thanks
Madison

I've had this happen a few times. The way I've gotten the link to work is press Encert+F7 as if you were on a web page rather than an email.

You could try just copying the link into your browser's address bar/open
dialogue.
When you see these links in your e-mails, are you sure your virtual cursor
is on?

What I do when I encounter this problem is to bring up the email inside my
default Internet browser. I do this in the following way,

1. Open the message.
2. Press the following keys, ALT, followed by the letters H, then A,
followed by V.
3. After you get the message that if you bring up the email in your browser,
the security settings may be different from your email program, the message
will open in the browser.
4. Now you can TAB to the link, just as if it were a web page. You shouldn't
be taken anywhere else except for the new web page to which the link is
directing you.

Hi, JM. The links of which Madison and others are talking can't be copied to
the address bar, because the link just says, click here, or something like
that. It isn't an URL with an http or something like that. If you copy click
here into the address bar, that isn't going to take you anywhere.

Ok..but it's still a link...it just has an html text message attached to it
that says " click here". It's been a while and of course it's e-mail client
dependent, but you should be able to expose it with the context menu...

Frequently I see two links for a site, one is labelled graphic and th other
is not. Clicking on the graphic link acts like you say, the other link
usually does what is wanted.

Also, I sometimes have to arrow into the middle of the link to make it
activate properly.

I usually just press the numpad + key to make sure if I'm uncertain. I do
have this problem with outlook where occasionally when viwing a message in
html (where the virtual buffer should automatically be invoked), I'm in
"regular" PC cursor mode instead.

I usually just press the numpad + key to make sure if I'm uncertain. I do have
this problem with outlook where occasionally when viwing a message in html
(where the virtual buffer should automatically be invoked), I'm in "regular" PC
cursor mode instead.

You could try just copying the link into your browser's address bar/open
dialogue.
When you see these links in your e-mails, are you sure your virtual cursor is
on?

Hi all,
I've had an issue on and off that when I click on a link within an email I'm
taken to the subject of the email and not the webpage that the link is for.
This is extremely annoying especially when it happens with verification emails,
is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening in the future? I've
tried changing the format that email messages are displayed in, but this hasn't
made any difference, I know someone told me that when I'm on a link I can bring
up the context menu and get something that says open hyperlink or something, but
I've tried this and have not yet found such an option. I'm running the latest
versions of Jaws, Edge, Office 365 and Windows 10. Look forward to any help
anyone can provide me, everyone's help is always much appreciated!!!! Thanks
Madison

Funny you mention this, as I had this exact problem with a recent e-mail. A
friend sent me several Dropbox links, all of which I could open either by
press enter on the link or using the context menu to open the link. But
there was just one in the whole list which, when I hit enter on the link,
took me to the subject line and when I tried again, looking in the context
menu, I couldn't actually find the option to open the link. As this was just
one of about a dozen links, I assumed the sender hadn't entered the details
properly.

then it's a matter of right clicking the link and entering on "copy link location" or something to that affect, open a browser and pressing control+l or alt+d, and control+v to paste the link address and pressing enter.

Hi, JM. The links of which Madison and others are talking can't be copied to
the address bar, because the link just says, click here, or something like
that. It isn't an URL with an http or something like that. If you copy click
here into the address bar, that isn't going to take you anywhere.

Sometimes, especially with links to Webex or Zoom conference meetings, I find it helpful to right arrow a couple times so that my focus is in the text of the link, not just at the beginning, then the context menu options are there.

Ok..but it's still a link...it just has an html text message attached to it that says " click here". It's been a while and of course it's e-mail client dependent, but you should be able to expose it with the context menu...

Try p ressing jaws key + z -- it's a multi-position toggle (on, off, on for
all applications, I think)...make sure it is turned on. Note that it should
normally turn on automatically when an html document is detected.
