Moderated JAWS and Firefox (New Update)

Joe DiNero

Hi everyone,

I have a question as I have not used Firefox in several weeks. There was an update this morning for Firefox, and since then JAWS is not reading pages properly, in fact, with the exception of the main Google page, it does not read any content at all. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Thanks,

Joe

Well it would help if you told us what version of JAWS your running. I'm assuming your running the current version which is 86?

Hello,

I have had the same issue happen with both 2020 and 2021. I can initially navigate to a page, however, in the instance of Google, or another website that I am testing, when I enter text into a search field and do a search. The page loads and JAWS does not read anything, and indicates that there are no headings and links on the page, which is not possible.

I just updated FireFox and did a search from duckduckgo.com, my default page, for Price of Tea in China, and got good results that the latest version of Jaws 2021 read just fine.
I do not use google.

This is why I have pretty much abandoned Firefox, and now use Google Chrome as my main internet browser with Jaws.

I still have Firefox on my computers, but it is clearly my second choice.  I also find the constant updates quite anoying.

I use Microsoft Edge as my default but notice one thing I like better about Firefox.

With Edge, I do a search, and get the results.  I activate the link I want in the results, and I have to activate it a second time to actually get to the page.

With Firefox, I am on the desired page after the first link activation.

This doesn't happen to me. I also gave up on firefox. It just isn't worth the hassle they keep giving Jaws.

I've only had one real problem in the last year and it was fixed with a new version of JFW.  I like the facebook container extension for firefox, and the way its menus work.  If it could chromecast, I'd use it for everything.

It’s obviously completely system dependent. One might say you can still blame Mozilla for not testing on a greater number of configurations – but well, they don’t actually have the kind of resources that Google, oneo f the bigest tech companies going currently, has – but they have the possible advantage of being more user-oriented than Google and not exclusively bottom-line oriented.

Anyway, works fine here with my rather old Jaws version. Lol

It's not a grudge. It is that FireFox isn't the best choice for me anymore. Edge, Chrome, Brave and Waterfox are all I need.

I use Microsoft Edge as my default but notice one thing I like better about Firefox.

With Edge, I do a search, and get the results.  I activate the link I want in the results, and I have to activate it a second time to actually get to the page.

With Firefox, I am on the desired page after the first link activation.

This is why I have pretty much abandoned Firefox, and now use Google Chrome as my main internet browser with Jaws.

I still have Firefox on my computers, but it is clearly my second choice.  I also find the constant updates quite anoying.

Well it would help if you told us what version of JAWS your running. I'm assuming your running the current version which is 86?

Hi everyone,

I have a question as I have not used Firefox in several weeks. There was an update this morning for Firefox, and since then JAWS is not reading pages properly, in fact, with the exception of the main Google page, it does not read any content at all. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Thanks,

Joe

I have had issues with JAWS and Chrome not playing well together on some sites, and had to turn to Firefox.

I have no issues nor complaints with Firefox. With all browsers and last 3-versions of Jaws, not one problem.

Holding grudges in this environment will leave you with nothing that works.
