Moderated Microsoft Teams
Tom Behler
Hello, everyone.
Later next week, I’ll be participating in a meeting that will be done via Microsoft Teams.
I’m familiar with Zoom meetings, so can’t believe that Microsoft Teams would be that much more challenging.
However, I don’t want to assume this, and get into trouble with next week’s meeting due to access issues.
I will simply be participating in the meeting on a conversational level; in other words, I won’t have to share screens or do anything too complex.
I already have the meeting link.
If someone can give me a quick overview of how to get into a Microsoft Teams meeting, and how to activate my audio and video as a meeting participant, that should be sufficient.
Thanks for any help that can be provided.

Hi,
Your best bet is to go to the Freedom Scientific website and look for the archive of the Team webinar and they also have the list of keyboard commands up there also.
If you have JAWS 2021 you will have a lot more function than what is covered in the webinar that Freedom Scientific has done.

Hello Tom.
I am currently going through the Teams thing, and comparing it with Zoom is a bit unfair. Teams integrates into the Microsoft 365 suite and is extremely powerful. Its zoom like virtual meeting features are just a small part of the entire package.
Having said that, I don’t like it as much as Zoom. But for what you require in the first instance – you should be ok.
You click on the meeting link as you always have, and I have found the best approach is to tab through options that present themselves when the link opens. It allows you to turn audio and video on and to join the meeting once you have chosen your settings.
The interface has two main components: toolbars with buttons, and different tabs. You left and right arrow on the toolbars, and you tab between tabs.
For the most part, Jaws works well enough. But I have had difficulties with gestures such as hand raising/lowering and focusing on chat messages.
Good luck.
Vaughan.

Thanks, Vaughan.
Our meeting is going to be more of an informal discussion, so I think what you have given me here should be good enough to get me started.
I’ve also asked the meeting host if I can enter the meeting early, just to be sure things are set up properly.

I echo the thanks to Vaughan. I have my first Teams meeting this week and I feel a bit nervous about it but I’m sure it will be fine. I already know the people and although all sighted some of them are unfamiliar and nervous about Teams too so that is kind of reassuring.
Cheers Paula. |

HI Tom, A couple of shortcut keys to remember in teams are: ctrl shift m is a toggle to mutue/unmute your mic, ctrl shift k to raise and lower your hand, ctrl shift b to leave a meeting. As Vaugn says, hit enter to join a meeting, then tab to where you hear something like join meeting with camera off and mic/speakers on, and it should work. I’m also still learning teams, and its quite a learning curve. Good Luck. Regards Mark
