I'm wondering if there is a significant benefit in installing and using the Power Chute Personal Edition program for a user to access an APC UPS's features? and if so, if it is accessible with JAWS and/or NVDA?
I am inclined to plug in the UPS, computer and peripherals, and let it do it's job without using the PCPE.

It wasn't all that accessible, but it can give you some useful info if you need to know things like when your last ups event was and the like.

is the USB cable standard (and can get one from whom ever sells one) or is it propriatary, therefore I will have to check with APC?

They usually come in the box. It is a plain old a-b cable like we used to use on printers.

thanks Chris. I lost mine a few years ago because I didn't think installing PCPE would be useful and accessible.
