Hi all,
Can someone please tell me how to change the time on my computer so that it stays? It's off by at least 15 minutes which is rather annoying. I'm running Jaws 2018 and Windows 10. Thanks Madison

You can go to the windows settings, date and time settings.

If you have automatically adjust the time then as someone said, your battery may be going out because it shouldn't slow down. You can get into those settings and adjust it manually, but I just leave mine so it syncs with the internet. I also find it is easier to cope with settings if I put Jaws in Speech on Demand and launch Narrator. HTH, Richard "He that cannot forgive others breaks the bridge over which he must pass himself," and we forget that only grace can break the cycle of ancient hatreds among peoples. (It is notable that while I have regretted not granting grace to others, I've never once regretted extending it.)" - Edward Herbert

Windows+I. Try: 1. Open Settings (Windows+I). 2. Go to "Time and Language". 3. Select Date and Time (first subcategory). 4. Select "Sync now". This will synchronize your clock according to what a time server says (default is time.windows.com). If this works, your clock will be set to the correct time unless the hardware clock refuses to honor what Windows says. I'm going to forward this to an actual Windows 10 forum in hopes that folks over there can provide guidance. Cheers, Joseph

That might be because Control Panel is set to category view, not small or large icons. To find out, tab around Control Panel until you arrive at the search box, then press Tab to see what JAWS says. Cheers, Joseph

With your date being over 3 years off it don't matter what
time you set your computer to, you need to correct the date as well.
Follow Joseph Lee's steps and choose, Region, instead of, Date and time, to
change your date and time from there.
Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool. I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.

Hi, Region subcategory does not let you change date – rather, it controls how certain things are displayed depending on where you live (commonly called a “locale”). To change date and time manually (and I’ll introduce you to shorthands):
Try pressing JAWS Key+F12 (or twice) to make sure what you set is kept. If it didn’t, as folks noted, this is a hardware issue. Cheers, Joseph

Hi, The link provided in Settings/Time and Date/Region does not open the “actual” date and time Control Panel applet – it opens an overview page, not the dialog to change date and time. This is one of those instances where I wish Microsoft would just move everything to Settings, but that won’t happen for a long time. Cheers, Joseph

I changed a battery in a Dell about 8 years ago. I did it with the power cord unplugged, because I am not messing around inside a piece of gear with power connected and never lost anything as far as settings goes. It worked fine when plugged in and I was able to set the clock.

power still connected, especially computers. Not only are you risking injury to yourself, touching the wrong thing could cause the battery to be the least of your problems. If you or, someone else decide to change the lythium backup battery, do not remove the power cable, when the old lythium battery is removed, because, if you do remove the power cable with no backup battery inserted, all the bios settings will be lost. It's off by at least 15 minutes which is rather annoying. I'm running Jaws 2018 and Windows 10. Thanks Madison
