Hi, Mike. Try the following,

 

1. Open Outlook.

2. Go to a message which has the smilies.

3. Type the following keystrokes once the message is open,

 

ALT plus H, followed by A O C

 

This will bring you to the message encoding menu. Make sure that Unicode (UTF-8) is checked‑

 

This should give you the correct encoding to translate these characters correctly. If not, try one of the other encoding options, such as Automatic.

I have been noticing that if someone sends me a :-) through outlook, it is red like a J. What can I do, to make outlook read the Smileys properly with JAWS?
