Moderated undoing effect in Excel
Mario
I've used Alt+Control+JAWSKey+R which defines the selected columns as those containing row titles for the current region.
I've also used Alt+Control+JAWSKey+C which defines the selected rows as those containing column titles for the current region. what do I have to do if I do not need or want the effect anymore? |

Mario,
I have never been clear whether this does something within JAWS itself (in which case what follows will probably not apply) or if it works with the Define Names command of Excel itself. If it is working with the Define Name command, I believe you can get rid of them by selecting the row/column you originally selected, hitting CTRL+SHIFT+F3, and when the dialog comes up for Create Names from Selection then uncheck the checkbox(es) checked, and hit OK. I think that will undefine them. It's worth a try, anyway, as the CTRL+SHIFT+F3 is how you initially define them via Excel itself based on what's the selected range. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Tolerance is the positive and cordial effort to understand another's beliefs, practices, and habits without necessarily sharing or accepting them. ~ Joshua Liebman |

Using these keystrokes creates a .jsi file, which you will need to delete in order to remove the command.

Go to the JAWS screen. Utilities explore utilities folder. Explore my settings. Personalized settings. the excel.jsi file will be there. Wipe it out. If that doesn't work, holler and I will look harder. At 06:09 PM 4/17/2020, you wrote: I've used Alt+Control+JAWSKey+R which defines the selected columns as those containing row titles for the current region. |

this works, and BTW the exact verbage is title reading detection, but there might be a situation where I apply the command for rows when I should have used the command for columns.

is there a keystroke that neutralizes the one I mistakenly applied, leaving the other one active? or do I just have to delete the JSI file that Ann mentioned and start again? -------- Original Message --------

No, when you go to quick settings, under that title reading. You can choose between column title, row title, both, or none. The space bar will cycle between them.

There's a reason I suggest NOT using a screen-reader dependent method to assign a column of row titles, or a row of column titles, when the ability exists in Excel itself, and every screen reader I have worked with allows you to toggle on/of the reading of a column title when switching columns or row title when changing rows if such are defined in the spreadsheet.
And if you've filled your cells across a respective row with what you want as your column titles, or down your column with what you want as your row titles, it's simple to set up in Excel. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 The purpose of education is not to validate ignorance but to overcome it. |
