moderated Facebook messenger no longer works with Jaws

ann

Hi,

The subject says it. I cannot read messages in Facebook messenger with Jaws2020, latest version. I can see all relevant buttons and where messages should be, but the messages will not read. This happens in Chrome and Internet Explorer.

Does anyone have any fixes or work arounds?

~Ann

Still works fine with JAWS 2019 and WaterFox. Just messaged a friend in one of my Rush groups using the Messenger. Good luck!

How do you access Facebook Messenger? Are you using the app from the Microsoft Store or do you go to www.messenger.com?

Yeah use the app on IOS. I would recommend you use the WIN 10 app, but Microsoft pulled it from the MS Store. I was lucky to get it back since it was one of the apps I’ve downloaded before. Someone on another list said it was accessible and it is.

The Facebook Messenger app has not been removed from the Microsoft Store, it’s the Facebook app which was removed. Here is information from a Windows Central article:

What you need to know

• The Facebook app has been removed from the Microsoft Store.

• Facebook states that the app will not return to the Microsoft Store.

• Facebook's Messenger and Instagram apps will remain in the Microsoft Store.

Facebook removed its official app from the Microsoft Store recently. We knew from an email sent to a Facebook user last month that the app was on the way out, but its exit from the store is now official. Facebook and Microsoft confirmed with Neowin that the app is no longer available.

Representatives from Facebook and Microsoft told Neowin that "As of February 28, the Facebook desktop app for Windows is no longer available. People can still easily access and enjoy all of the features of Facebook via desktop browser."

Facebook's app on Windows 10 often went months without an update and wasn't as refined as its apps on other platforms, so it's not that surprising to see it leave the Microsoft Store.

If you want to have a dedicated Facebook "app" on your Start Menu or taskbar, you can install Facebook's website as an app through the new Microsoft Edge or other browsers that allow you to install websites as apps.

I trust you have rebooted?  I just tried it using a portable version of brave browser, which is a lot like Chrome.  It worked fine for me.

I won't use creepbook on a browser that I use for other things. I don't want it following me around the web.

Yep, I've rebooted twice, and tried three different browsers.

If I access my messages through the Facebook site, they read just fine. But if I use the messenger web site, no messages are readable by Jaws.

Well, I have been using it with chrome a few minutes ago and have no problems.  Unless I am posting to a group, I have been using chrome for a long time to listen to messages and posts as well as sending messages via messenger. With no problems and yes, I’m using JAWS 2020.

It behaves strangely and bounds of logic are not for it. I sometimes have the problem which OP provides.

Hi,

I have tried the F11 trick, in chrome Firefox and Internet Explorer, and it changed nothing. but, if I turn off the virtual cursor in Jaws, I can tab backand forth and Jaws reads the messages fine. But with the Virtual cursor on, Jaws doesn't see the messages at all.

Should I report this as a bug to someone, and exactly how do I go about doing this?
