Hello Alison:
fsince I wrote my response to your email, for no
apparent reason, when I pressed the ESC key to get out of an email message, JAWS
said "Invisible Cursor". I unloaded and restarted JAWS and the problem went away
because, when I pressed the ESC key, I was able to get out of the email message.
I will not say that this solution will solve your problem, but, it is worth a
try.

with something like “sticky keys.� I have a vague
recollection that a certain combination of keystrokes in Windows causes
keys to act like they are always pressed down. I do not know what that
combination is. But, apparently one can trigger this without knowing
or intending to do so. For me, the problem goes away after a restart.

In addition to the ideas which have
been suggested. unload and reload JFW. Also restart the
computer.
My personal opinion for what it is worth, I do not
think that your problem has anything to do with the Sticky Key function. In
order for the Sticky Key function to be activated using the keyboard, either the
left or right shift key needs to be tapped rapidly 5 times in
succession.

if it is sticky keys, you can press the right shift key 5 times and then answer no to the dialog. this will turn off sticky keys. being a jaws user since jaws 2.0 this problem has been around since then, lol! I always can get the keys to unstick by pressing both afending keys at the same time several times and the problem goes away. I don't think it is windows, I've noticed this off and on for years, it has something to do with the keyboard controller circuitry. No need to restart, just pound on the offending keys, both left and right keys, if you have them a few times and it will fix itself.
