Drag and drop matching problem

Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.

Hi,

I'm doing some workplace training.

Most of the questions are radio buttons and links.

I've run into a Match the right column with the left column by drag and drop.

I'm stumped. Anyone have any ideas? I can get JAWS to announce the items in each column, but haven't figured out a way to select one and place on another.

I suspect this is not attainable, but before I throw in the towel, I thought I'd check here.

Thanks in advance, Keith

Hi Keith,

Below are the drag & drop keystrokes & steps, but speaking from personal experience they're not very reliable.

Use the key strokes, (CTRL+INSERT+NUM PAD SLASH) for Drag and Drop .
This is used to drag items from one location and drop them in another.
Position the JAWS Cursor on the item you wish to move and press
CTRL+INSERT+NUM
PAD SLASH. You can leave the JAWS Cursor active, or you can switch to the PC
Cursor. JAWS will keep speaking as you navigate. Once you have positioned
the JAWS or PC Cursor in the location to which you would like to move the
item, press CTRL+INSERT+NUM PAD SLASH again, and the item will be moved to
the position of the active cursor.
Take care.

Hi Keith,

Technically JAWS does have the ability to work with drag-and-drop, which you can find discussed here:

https://www.mail-archive.com/jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com/msg36015.html

Personally I have never been able to get this to work to perform drag-and-drop activities in online courses or on web sites where drag-and-drop is used. For this reason I tend to write off anything that can *only* be completed using drag-and-drop as inaccessible.

The other commenters on the thread seem to agree that this feature doesn't work very well, but you can at least give it a try. Since it requires the use of the JAWS Cursor you should use Internet Explorer. Good luck!

Mike, the problem I’ve always had with that is that JAWS remains mum as long as that button is locked, thereby making navigation more than difficult.  I’m fairly stubborn, but gave up on that feature back in the 1990’s.

Hi Ted,

The only time I've ever had any luck with drag & drop is moving around items pinned to the taskbar!  But, it doesn't work very consistently, so I found unpinning items, & repinning them in the order I want them to be in to be faster than getting frustrated with trying to get drag & drop to work.
Take care.

Mike, FS must know all about this, as the problems are as old as the feature itself.

Thanks Mike and Aaron,

I couldn’t get the drag and drop to work on the site I was on. I’ll keep the post for future reference, in case it comes up again.

Mike,

How do you unpin and pin in desired order to the taskbar, as you describe?

Thank, Keith
