windows powershell

John Covici

Hi. I am trying to use windows powershell which is their better
command processor with Jaws, but it repeats each character twice when
I type it. Is there any setting to fix this problem, or do you know
of a script I can get to do so?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi John,

I don't know if this will help you, but you might try insert-numrow 2 which toggles speech through none, characters, words and characters and words. You may be getting echo of both screen input and keyboard input.

Thanks -- but why would that be true in that program and not true in
the command prompt? Also, if I do that, will I be able to use the
arrow keys to edit the line? I will do some experimenting.

Hi again, John,

What I am talking about would be the same as toggling speech for the keyboard. It would not change anything else that happens. For example, I type with words spoken after I press space instead of hearing each character one at a time. It is also possible to turn keyboard speech off, but I like to hear what I am typing. The solution I suggested would allow you to input something without it speaking which key is pressed, but could allow the screen to speak what just showed up. This was something I used to experience, pressing a key and having it spoken as a keyboard press and then having it repeated as an item written to the screen. The key still works as it was meant to, but does not speak twice.

I rarely use powershell but I can tell you that I do not experience a
double character echo. I could not tell you what settings difference
to look at, just letting you know that this is not an inherent problem
with jaws.

Hi, Soronel. When trying to use the power shell, you might try using NONE as opposed to Echo Highlighted. This might prevent duplication of vocalization. An easy way to change this is INSERT plus S. It will toggle between all, highlighted and none.

I do not normally use PS, I only entered this thread to say I don't
experience the double echo issue that John Covici originally posted
about.
