Dear list,

I’m running the latest build of Jaws 16 and for the last 1.5 weeks seem to be having a lot of trouble with facebook jumping around. I’ll be reading and try to make a comment only to find myself at the top of the page. Anyone else experiencing this? going to upgrade to 17 soon to see if that fixes the problem. Thanks fo any help

Carolyn Arnold <4carolyna@...>

I have 17, but Facebook seems to be getting worse and worse - much more
trouble with the thing, and I'm giving my friends a hearty farewell, that
is if I can find and get on What's on your mind?

Bye for now,

Carolyn

I really don’t think that this is a Jaws issue.  I am running the latest version, and have had issues with Facebook since last week.  Not only that, I have issues with it on my iPhone also.

Hi,  Drew,

Have you invoked “reserve”  (let
Facebook page allow special keystrokes

And if so,

Do the special keystrokes ever work on any

Facebook page?)

I am referring to the   “j” and “shift j”

Adapted for Facebook usage  once

“reserve is invoked under

Miscellaneous

Under JAWS  html options.

Please let me know if there is really  any Facebook page where the

“j”  jumps to the  next thread or

“shift j” goes to  last thread?

If such a page  really  exists, then people could practice on that  specific   Facebook  page to see if the”j/shift J”   thing works.

Also  is there some short cut method of going straight to an edit search field on a Facebook page?

Many thanks.

It’s probably something in facebook that changed, Jaws tech is probably working on something. I hope something comes really soon to fix the issues.

I think once you get with them, you're stuck, you can't get out, not that
they try to stop you, I just don't think there's a way out. I guess they
never thought someone might want to make a permanent exit.

How do you do that, and what are the strokes? Are they the ones recommended to find Home, Notifications and so forth?

I wish there was a way to cut to What's on your mind. Then that plus comments drive me nuts, want to send a sticker, attach a photograph. I wish I could disable that option, when I want to.

Hi,
You go to default settings in JAWS 16or 17 and arrow to the
Second choice which is
Html.
Find miscellaneous and
Arrow down to the last option (the 7th I think)
Which begins with the word
"reserve" and check it.
Now if you do that, every website would enable special keystrokes created to work with that site.
You can do that, but there is a better way.

A much better way is to
Invoke this only on the
FaceBook sites as you only need this on Facebook.
Do this by hitting
Insert + v" and
Type in the word reserve into the edit field.
When you have the chance to check that option,
You are permitting the use of special
Keystrokes that JAWS users can use on a faceBook page.

Once invoked,
You can advance to the next
Thread on FaceBook by hitting
"j" on FaceBook.
Without checking reserve option",
You would be otherwise getting
"jumpto line xx"
The other command is
"shift j"
Which takes you to theprevious thread on a Facebook page.

Now, is any one seriously actually making these keystrokes work?
If so
On which FaceBook page?

Please share one pagewhere "j"and "shift j" work on FaceBook PLEASE.

I'm also having difficulties in Facebook.  I've commented or written a post on any given page, checked it before posting and then, when I post it, all that comes up is the first letter!  So upgrading to JAWS 17 does not solve the problem.  Instead, I've had to go back to JAWS 15 and, only then, am I able to post messages or comments on Facebook without the embarrassment of only the first letter showing up!

You could always go to your account settings and deactivate your account. I'm not sure which setting though.

I can say that putting in that Insert V option and going to OK is making
Facebook work more like it used to, but I didn't get anywhere with J.
I'll try the next time I go in. Thanks for that tip.
