IE 11 Successfully Installed Here, Well, Sort Of
Hello, everyone.
Â
As some of you may remember, I have been reluctant to move from IE 10 to IE 11, because of problems I had last summer with IE 11 in terms of being able to enter text into text boxes on web sites that I access.
Â
However, since I now have been forced to upgrade to IE 11 due to no Microsoft support for IE 10, I decided to take the leap today, and install IE 11.
Â
I installed IE 11 from the .exe file that I downloaded and saved from the Microsoft web site, and the installation seemed to go well.
Â
I also was pleasantly surprised to find that my internet favorites had all been preserved, even though I had saved my favorites folder as a back-up, in case something went wrong.
Â
However, this is where the good news ends.
Â
I’m now back to having the same text-entry problems I had last summer. I had my sighted wife watch while I ttried entering text into edit boxes, and she tells me that my main  cursor does not move when I try to do so. As I enter text, Jaws speaks the text, but it is not entered into the web form. I have Jaws set to manually enter forms mode, so I know I’m in forms mode, since I get the higher-sounding click whenever I hit enter.
Â
I have made sure all add-ons, extensions, and toolbars  are disabled, but so far, no joy!
Â
Last summer when I had this issue, I worked with Freedom Scientific  Technical Support, with the Microsoft Accessibility hotline staff, and with another well-experienced Jaws user from this list, and we could never solve the issue.
Â
At least I have Firefox now as my main internet browser, and that works fine!
Â
If anyone has any other suggestions of things for me to try, please send them my way.
Â
I am extremely frustrated with Internet Explorer at this point!

Â
When I encounter this problem with IE11, an insert-escape refresh enables JAWS to verbalize the data entry. Keeping focus on the edit field, I then press insert-numpad 8 to read the content. Otherwise, I don’t have the same problem. Is there a specific website?

Unfortunately, I can’t get your strategy to work.
Â
When I get into a form, and use insert escape, followed by insert 8 on the numpad, and then hit enter to enter the text, Jaws verbalizes the text, but the PC cursor doesn’t seem to move.
Â
Then, if I hit the tab key to go into the next edit field, I get into a tab about the Bing search engine, which is obviously outside of the main web page in which I’m working.

This happens on several web sites that I have tried so far, and was the same problem with IE 11 I encountered last Summer.

I used to have that type of thing happen when I seemed to be stuck at the address bar area. Another problem I had was getting stuck somewhere with the forms mode on and not be able to move out of it.
I now keep my forms mode to manual. I still have some slow moving web pages, but only with very busy ones, that is ones with many links.
Really, there's got to be a solution, so get back with either FS, Microsoft disability or both.

The best way I can describe my situation is that when I hit enter to start entering info, my main cursor seems to be stuck. I can’t do anything with the arrow keys, and Jaws says nothing. … When I hit my tab key, I seem to be kicked out of the main web page into a Bing search engine tab.

Strange thing is that I disabled all add-ons, so you would think Bing wouldn’t be there any more.

So, please keep those suggestions coming in the meantime, and maybe we'll get lucky.
Keep in mind that FS Tech Support worked with me on this for many hours last Summer, with no success. This is not to say that I'm unwilling to call them; it's just that they seem to be at a loss too.
This is why I rolled back to IE 10 as a way to at least get IE up and running again. So much for a good or not-so-good plan. (LOL)

I'm now back to having the same text-entry problems I had last summer.
What happens if you try Firefox or Chrome instead?
Anyone who is using IE at this point should be aware that it's a dead end:
Microsoft is moving to its new "Edge" browser, replacing IE. In addition,
other browsers such as Firefox and Chrome conform to Web standards much more
effectively than IE does. So, unless you're using specialized Web applications
that depend on features of IE, choosing a different default browser would be a
good idea. If you're having problems such as the above, at least testing them
with a different browser would be useful.
As I think I said in one of my earlier posts, I have switched to Firefox as
my default browser, and do not have this problem.
Because of all of these issues I'm having with IE 11, I'm seriously thinking
of completely scrapping IE, and going with Google Chrome as an alternate
browser. But that is going to take some time, and will also involve a
learning curve. So, I will probably have to put that off till a bit later
on.

you might try unchecking this setting:
press alt, t for tools, o for options.
control+tab 4 or 5 times to the contents tab.
press alt+i to activate the auto complete settings button.
first checkbox should be unchecked.
tab to and spacebar on the ok button.
I've unchecked all of the autocomplete settings, including the ones in the advanced tab (found about half way down the dialog).

I also was pleasantly surprised to find that my internet favorites had
all been preserved, even though I had saved my favorites folder as a
back-up, in case something went wrong.
However, this is where the good news ends.
I’m now back to having the same text-entry problems I had last summer.
I had my sighted wife watch while I ttried entering text into edit
boxes, and she tells me that my main cursor does not move when I try to
do so. As I enter text, Jaws speaks the text, but it is not entered
into the web form. I have Jaws set to manually enter forms mode, so I
know I’m in forms mode, since I get the higher-sounding click whenever I
hit enter.
I have made sure all add-ons, extensions, and toolbars are disabled,
but so far, no joy!
Last summer when I had this issue, I worked with Freedom Scientific
Technical Support, with the Microsoft Accessibility hotline staff, and
with another well-experienced Jaws user from this list, and we could
never solve the issue.
At least I have Firefox now as my main internet browser, and that works
fine!
If anyone has any other suggestions of things for me to try, please send
them my way.
I am extremely frustrated with Internet Explorer at this point!

I'm not trying to be difficult here, but what would taking this step do to
solve the particular problem I'm having?
Again, I'm just trying to understand the reasoning behind certain steps
before I actually take them.

enabled, especially for the address bar.
you might try unchecking this setting:
press alt, t for tools, o for options.
control+tab 4 or 5 times to the contents tab.
press alt+i to activate the auto complete settings button.
first checkbox should be unchecked.
tab to and spacebar on the ok button.
I've unchecked all of the autocomplete settings, including the ones in the
advanced tab (found about half way down the dialog).

I not only deleted all of the auto-complete settings, but also deleted my

Interestingly, even though I have done this, auto-complete still happens
whenever I type in a web site address.

My question is this. Could that Windows update have somehow gotten reinstalled? If you were able to remove it again, might it clear up your problem with IE11?

IE 11 Successfully Installed Here, Well, Sort Of
Tom, I noticed after I upgraded to IE11, the auto complete settings
wer enabled, especially for the address bar. you might try unchecking
this setting:
press alt, t for tools, o for options. control+tab 4 or 5 times to the
contents tab. press alt+i to activate the auto complete settings
button. first checkbox should be unchecked. tab to and spacebar on the
ok button.
I've unchecked all of the autocomplete settings, including the ones in
the advanced tab (found about half way down the dialog).

As some of you may remember, I have been reluctant to move from IE
10 to IE 11, because of problems I had last summer with IE 11 in
terms of being able to enter text into text boxes on web sites that I
access.
However, since I now have been forced to upgrade to IE 11 due to no
Microsoft support for IE 10, I decided to take the leap today, and
install IE 11.
I installed IE 11 from the .exe file that I downloaded and saved from
the Microsoft web site, and the installation seemed to go well.
I also was pleasantly surprised to find that my internet favorites
had all been preserved, even though I had saved my favorites folder
as a back-up, in case something went wrong.
However, this is where the good news ends.
I'm now back to having the same text-entry problems I had last
summer. I had my sighted wife watch while I ttried entering text into
edit boxes, and she tells me that my main cursor does not move when
I try to do so. As I enter text, Jaws speaks the text, but it is not
entered into the web form. I have Jaws set to manually enter forms
mode, so I know I'm in forms mode, since I get the higher-sounding
click whenever I hit enter.
I have made sure all add-ons, extensions, and toolbars are disabled,
but so far, no joy!
Last summer when I had this issue, I worked with Freedom Scientific
Technical Support, with the Microsoft Accessibility hotline staff,
and with another well-experienced Jaws user from this list, and we
could never solve the issue.
At least I have Firefox now as my main internet browser, and that
works fine!
If anyone has any other suggestions of things for me to try, please
send them my way.
I am extremely frustrated with Internet Explorer at this point!
