Moderated jaws does not work properly in admin command window

John Covici

Hi. At least with version 1809, jfw will not read anything in the
command window if run as administrator. If I virtualize the window, I
see the text, but other wise nothing -- jaws cursor reads nothing as
well. Tech support says its not supported, but that makes no sense to
me and Narrator reads it fine.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Not sure why tech support says it's not supported. It has been supported and reads well for as long as I can remymver. Sure about 10 years ago jaws did horribly with command prompt but not in recent years.

Hi,

I just tried elevating to Admin Command Prompt and JAWS reads it just fine. What version of JAWS are you running?

I'm running an admin account with UAC set to the highest setting.

Everybody else's machine worked in this respect. I called the Microsoft

You may have to set the command prompt to be legacy instead of using
PowerShell.

You can do this in CMD properties.

CMD and legacy are two different things. You first make sure you are using

I tried toggling the legacy checkbox, no joy. Works fine in regular

which leads me to think its a Jaws problem, but it seems only here.

I'm running an admin account with UAC set to the highest setting.

I want to be able to use powershell, so I am not sure what you mean,
the only thing I see in properties (using powershell) is one checkbox
to toggle legacy console features. However, my problem appears in
both powershell and regular cmd.

I just opened Power Shell (Admin) from the Windows + X menu and typed ipconfig to display my computer's IP configuration and I can read this with the Jaws cursor.

If you turn legacy console option on, you might have more success with JAWS reading in the CMD window, but you will also lose some of the newer features of CMD.

I remember using the admin command prompt in 1809 and I don't think I
ever had any issues with Jaws not reading it, but it definitely reads it in 1903.

Hm, strange.
I have never had any issue with either regular cmd or powershell in admin
mode using JAWS. I tend to read output with the JAWS cursor. If I don't,
though, JAWS will just read the output of any particular command
automatically. I'm uh, still running 1803, though.

I tried toggling the legacy checkbox, no joy. Works fine in regular mode,
but does not read in admin mode, although Narrator reads it fine which leads
me to think its a Jaws problem, but it seems only here.
