Afternoon:

I can work as an IT resource for a non-profit organization. I will need to
remote into several machines to achieve my job. Is there a tool which will
allow me to, using jaws, remote into several systems, achieve the task
needed, and then to allow the person to continue their work? I wish to do
this remotely. Would VPN allow that to happen? Is there a way to achieve
this without having JAWS on the other end; at least in the employee's
systems? Thanks!

Ed,

If you have any questions on any of the layered commands, do the following:

JAWS+Spacebar

Then press the Question Mark Key

This will give you a general listing of layered commands and what they do

Or, JAWS+Spacebar

then press one of the layered commands such as O, H, etc.

then press the question mark key.

This will give you specific options for that layered command.

What is the command for getting JAWS to read a PDF file with OCR?

Mario

I'll take a shot:

JAWS has a feature called Tandem Direct which requires the remote
computer user to type a code to connect to the controler via the Tandem
server or, to answer your question, you can pay a one time charge for a
capability for JAWS to use the facility in Windows called Remote Desktop
to be able to connect and interact with the remote computer with or
without the need to depend on JAWS to be on the remote computer.

I don't think using a VPN would provide the necessary interaction of
JAWS to take control of the remote computer like connecting via the
Tandem server would provide.

I don't know of any other means of achieving what you're wanting to do,
but perhaps others will provide some input.

Hi Charles. You are correct. JAWS Tandem requires that the screen reader be installed on both computers. Remote access would also require JAWS to be on your computer, and on the server side or client computer. There are several ways to utilize Remote access. That would depend on how the company does what they do to allow someone like yourself to remote into their system. RDP, Remote Desktop Protocol is one method. Also JAWS supports some Citrix connections as well. Hope this helps.

I don't think there is any way to do that. They need Jaws on the

JAWS is required to have at least the basics installed, though not necessarily speech, in order to connect via remote desktop if I'm not mistaken. There are instructions that say as much in the help files for it. Though if that changes in some future version of JAWS, I will be all over it.

Ekstrand, Pamela A. -ND <pamela.a.ekstrand.-nd@...>

Does the JAWS documentation indicate that JAWS does not have to be installed on a remote computer when connecting via RDP? If so, can someone point me to it?

Thanks,
Pam

Doesn't JAWS need to be on the destination computer in both cases? Isn't

Doesn't Remote Desktop require JAWES on both ends?

Citric requires a onetime charge to Freedom Scientific now VISPERO of $200.00.

If network administrators are unfimiliar with JAWS they will hesitate with the installation of JAWS on the server.

You might want to look into Team Viewer as a way to access another computer that doesn't have JAWS running on it for admin tech support. If it is a comercial business your are working for, you might want to look into a legal licensed copy of Team Viewer if that will work for your situation.

Ed,

If you have any questions on any of the layered commands, do the
following:

JAWS+Spacebar
Then press the Question Mark Key
This will give you a general listing of layered commands and what
they do

Or, JAWS+Spacebar
then press one of the layered commands such as O, H, etc.
then press the question mark key.
This will give you specific options for that layered command.

Morning:

Thanks for all your help. To draw final conclusions, JAWS must be on both
ends of a connection to use Windows. However, to use a command line
connection using things like PowerShell, it might not be necessary. Thanks
for all your assistance.

Citric requires a onetime charge to Freedom Scientific now VISPERO of
$200.00.

The computer that is accessing a remote computer needs a licensed copy
of JAWS running but the server end just needs a copy of JAWS that has
to be installed by the network administrator. If network
administrators are unfimiliar with JAWS they will hesitate with the
installation of JAWS on the server.

You might want to look into Team Viewer as a way to access another
computer that doesn't have JAWS running on it for admin tech support.
It will require a copy of Team Viewer installed on both computers. If
it is a comercial business your are working for, you might want to
look into a legal licensed copy of Team Viewer if that will work for
your
situation.

Hi Charles. You are correct. JAWS Tandem requires that the screen
reader be installed on both computers. Remote access would also
require JAWS to be on your computer, and on the server side or
client computer. There are several ways to utilize Remote access.
That would depend on how the company does what they do to allow
someone like yourself to remote into their system. RDP, Remote
Desktop Protocol is one method. Also JAWS supports some Citrix
connections as well. Hope this helps.

I'll take a shot:
JAWS has a feature called Tandem Direct which requires the remote
computer user to type a code to connect to the controler via the
Tandem server or, to answer your question, you can pay a one time
charge for a capability for JAWS to use the facility in Windows
called Remote Desktop to be able to connect and interact with the
remote computer with or without the need to depend on JAWS to be on
the remote
computer.

I don't think using a VPN would provide the necessary interaction of
JAWS to take control of the remote computer like connecting via the
Tandem server would provide.
I don't know of any other means of achieving what you're wanting to
do, but perhaps others will provide some input.

Hello,
I believe that to use the remote connection with NVDA copies of the program must be running on both machines.

I have been thinking about this a little more and a possibility is Remote Incident Manager from Sero Tek which is a subscription based program and the System Access speech program does not have to be the primary screen reader. I would give them a call at 866-202-0520 and talk with them.

Hello,
I believe that to use the remote connection with NVDA copies of the program must be running on both machines.

I have been thinking about this a little more and a possibility is Remote Incident Manager from Sero Tek which is a subscription based program and the System Access speech program does not have to be the primary screen reader. I would give them a call at 866-202-0520 and talk with them.

Original message:

Jonas,
Does NVDA Remote require NVDA to be installed on both computers?
Pam

I don't think there is any way to do that. They need Jaws on the other end of the connection. If this is a job, maybe your employer would pay for Aira.

I can work as an IT resource for a non-profit organization. I will
need to remote into several machines to achieve my job. Is there a
tool which will allow me to, using jaws, remote into several systems,
achieve the task needed, and then to allow the person to continue
their work? I wish to do this remotely. Would VPN allow that to
happen? Is there a way to achieve this without having JAWS on the
other end; at least in the employee's systems? Thanks!

Ed,

If you have any questions on any of the layered commands, do the following:

JAWS+Spacebar
Then press the Question Mark Key
This will give you a general listing of layered commands and what they
do

Or, JAWS+Spacebar
then press one of the layered commands such as O, H, etc.
then press the question mark key.
This will give you specific options for that layered command.
