open book

The other question is if, there is another updated version of Open Book, would ones who purchased the 9 be able to get the newer version?  Or would they have to shell out the extra money. At least ones who purchased Window Eyes were able to migrate for free to JAWS.

Hi, has anyone heard roomers or facts about a new openbook release, it would be nice to use vocalizer voices and other things as well?

Richard Turner <richardturner42@...>

I joined the Openbook beta team in about 2004 or so, and there has not been any traffic on that group since Openbook 9.

I believe that was either late 2013 or early 2014.

I personally suspect Openbook has gotten as good as it will ever get and VFO is focusing on the OCR in Jaws.

But, I have heard nothing from VFO about Openbook, so that is pure speculation on my part.

I asked Eric at his presentation to the NFB convention. His answer  was that VFO will eventually release a new version but for now they are working hard on Jaws and some other things..

Well, I’m not holding my breath.  I was told that over 3 years ago, not by Eric, but by a couple other staff people.

It is clear that they expect to improve the product but we don’t know if they will release something in the next years or simply get red of OB and implement the advanced Reading features in Jaws.

What we know is that VFO has a hole portfolio of hardware and software Reading tolos and OB features will have to be implemented somewhere.

There are Open Book features that cannot be incorporated into JFW such as the ability to import and read various document formats. Personally, I  think it is pretty disgraceful it has not been updated in years. It still can’t read Epub format for instance.

I would say, it’s the SMA is still good on your version of open book (open book 9), that you could get the free download from the software. However, they might send you the latest version of open book if that SMA is still good.
