Windows desktop question

Van Lant, Robin

HI,

Using Win 10 with JAWS 2018, I’ve noticed that, when arrowing around the desktop icons, JAWS will say “checked” after reading the icon name.  is this normal?  Is there an instance when it would say “unchecked”?

This is because use check boxes to select items is enabled in file explorer options

Disable this option if its too annoying or have no use for the check box selection option

Hi, Robin. The option of which Chris is speaking is in the View tab of File Explorer Options, and might look like this:

Use check boxes to select items

In your case it will say:

-ON

To disable check boxes on the desktop, press SPACE BAR on this option. Then it will say:

Use check boxes to select items-OFF

Thanks.  Took me a bit to find that checkbox, but I did.  I did not realize that option would impact desktop icons and the list in the navigation pane.  Glad to have it changed.
