JAWS and Outlook 2013 issue; protected view.

This is how I undo protected view in Word 2010, on a document-by-document basis. Making the setting permanent would put your computer's security at risk.

Press alt, then f, then I, then e.

Hi folks! I've been dealing with this issue for quite a while now, and
cannot seem to get any relief. I'm having trouble with JAWS and Outlook
2013, particularly after I have been using it for a couple of hours.
JAWS will start to perform very sluggishly, and even sometimes, I get a
message saying that Outlook is not responding. It's really annoying.
Most of the time, I end up restarting my machine. Does anyone else have
this problem?
How have you addressed it?

Hi, Carolyn. Is your Virtual Ribbon turned off? Perhaps the reason it won't take the E is because virtual ribbons are turned on, or checked under the Quick Settings menu.

Hi folks! I've been dealing with this issue for quite a while now, and
cannot seem to get any relief. I'm having trouble with JAWS and
Outlook 2013, particularly after I have been using it for a couple of
hours.
JAWS will start to perform very sluggishly, and even sometimes, I get a
message saying that Outlook is not responding. It's really annoying.
Most of the time, I end up restarting my machine. Does anyone else
have this problem?
How have you addressed it?

My virtual is off. I'll try again, thanks, Bill. What is the Quick

Hi, Carolyn. Is your Virtual Ribbon turned off? Perhaps the reason it
won't take the E is because virtual ribbons are turned on, or checked
under the Quick Settings menu.

To turn off permanently the protected files, go to files (alt-f), then
options (t). There is a huuuuuuuge dialog with protected files either
in their own category or under trust center, I don't remember which.
Within that dialog somewhere, though.

I know from a later message that you can't get the "e" step to work. I'm finding with the ribbon that you sometimes need to wait for JAWS to speak something before pressing a letter. Thus:

Alt (wait for JAWS to speak),
F (wait for JAWS to speak),
And so on. The wait is longer at some steps than others. I hope that turns out to be why "e" isn't working.

I know from a later message that you can't get the "e" step to work. I'm
finding with the ribbon that you sometimes need to wait for JAWS to speak
something before pressing a letter. Thus:

Alt (wait for JAWS to speak),
F (wait for JAWS to speak),
And so on. The wait is longer at some steps than others. I hope that
turns out to be why "e" isn't working.

Alt plus V, which is the quick settings menu, gives you a quick way to change a lot of options. One of those options is the Virtual Ribbon settings.

Also, Carolyn, just going to the Trust Center may not allow you to arrow through the settings. You may need to tab through the settings, or tabbing once or twice may take you to buttons or a dialogue box in which you can turn Protected Mode off.

finding with the ribbon that you sometimes need to wait for JAWS to speak
something before pressing a letter. Thus:

Alt (wait for JAWS to speak),
F (wait for JAWS to speak),
And so on. The wait is longer at some steps than others. I hope that
turns out to be why "e" isn't working.

I think those sounds work better with Eloquence. There are some fun ones
- but not contributory to JAWS other than to try to explain what happens
when I press Alt E or Alt F, I, and then the E. Some way, right now, my
Alt E must be out of touch.

I know from a later message that you can't get the "e" step to work.
I'm finding with the ribbon that you sometimes need to wait for JAWS to
speak something before pressing a letter. Thus:

Alt (wait for JAWS to speak),
F (wait for JAWS to speak),
And so on. The wait is longer at some steps than others. I hope that
turns out to be why "e" isn't working.

It's Office, not Windows. I ran across it first in 2010, but it might
have been around in 2007.

There is a little ring thing with Windows 10 when something doesn't
work.
There is a prettier sound with the e-mails. The other sound is OK, the
bur'r'r'r'r'r'r'r'r'r'r was the only way I knew to explain what
happened when I struck the E.

Bye for now,

Carolyn

Out of curiosity, what exactly is a
bur'r'r'r'r'r'r'r'r'r'r'r'r'r'r'r'r'r'r'r'r?

When I hit the F, of course, I get that and then same with the I, but
when I hit the E, I get the little Windows 10
bur'r'r'r'r'r'r'r'r'r'r'r'r'r'r'r'r'r'r'r'r.

Thanks, Adrian. I will make note of the steps and only use it when I
need it.

This is how I undo protected view in Word 2010, on a
document-by-document basis. Making the setting permanent would put your
computer's security at risk.

Press alt, then f, then I, then e.

Oh goody gumdrop. That's exactly how my Silverlight interface behaves.
I was really hoping the move to IE 11 would resolve that. Which version
of IE are you running?

Ted, it's frozen, and I cannot close Outlook. I'm running Windows 7 64
bit, with JAWS 17. I'm running Office 2013.

Can you close Outlook when you see that message, or are you frozen?
Also, what is your OS?
